The 2016 season is Sarpsborg 08's 5th season in Tippeligaen, following their return to the top level in 2012. It is also their second season with Geir Bakke as the club's manager. Sarpsborg 08 Fotballforening, commonly known as Sarpsborg 08 or simply Sarpsborg (), is a Norwegian football club based in Sarpsborg, playing in Eliteserien. Sarpsborg 08 and its predecessors played in 1. divisjon from 2005 to 2010. In 2010, the club was promoted to the Tippeligaen, the top league in Norway, but finished last and was relegated back to 1. divisjon in 2011. In 2012, they were promoted again and 6 years after, they qualified for their first Europa League group stage. They play their home games at Sarpsborg Stadion. History Pre-existence Football in Sarpsborg has traditionally been dominated by Sarpsborg FK (SFK), which won the Norwegian Cup six times and played 20 seasons in the top division, and to a lesser extent IL Sparta, which won the Norwegian Cup in 1952 and played nine seasons in the top division. Patrick Mortensen (born 13 July 1989) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Danish Superliga club AGF. Progressing through the youth academies of various clubs on Amager, Mortensen made his senior debut for the flagship team on the island, Fremad Amager, in October 2006, before being signed as an emerging talent by Danish Superliga club Brøndby the following year. Tor Øyvind Hovda (born 24 September 1989 in Ringerike) is a Norwegian footballer who plays for Hønefoss as a midfielder.
