2016 SANFL Season
The 2016 South Australian National Football League season (officially the SANFL IGA League) was the 137th season of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Australian rules football competition. Two key new rules to be introduced for the 2016 season are: * Interchange rotations to be restricted to a total of fifty per team per game. *A free kick to be awarded against a player who kicks or handpasses the ball if it goes out of bounds without being touched by another player. Both rules were more aggressive variants of similar rule changes later made in the AFL in 2016: the AFL limited interchanges to ninety per game, and adopted a stricter interpretation of deliberate out of bounds without automatically applying it to all untouched disposals out of bounds. Sturt Football Club
The Sturt Football Club, nicknamed The Double Blues, is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Unley, South Australia, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Founded in 1901 by the Sturt Cricket Club, the club initially struggled to make the finals, however, in 1915 they won their first Premiership. After several decades of substantial finals appearances and a few premiership wins, Sturt entered a period of success, winning seven premierships from 1966 to 1976 under coach Jack Oatey. Woodville Oval
Woodville Oval (currently Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval and formerly ''Unleash Solar Oval'') is primarily an Australian rules football and cricket oval found on Oval Avenue in the western Adelaide suburb of Woodville South in South Australia. It is the home ground of South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles, and the former home (1941–90) of the Woodville Football Club, with the former's clubrooms and administrations offices now housing The Eagles. Tom Fields
Tom Fields (born 19 December 1992) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Fields was raised in Queensland. He played football for North East Australian Football League club Labrador, and he represented Queensland at the 2011 AFL Under 18 Championships. After the 2012 season, Fields moved to Adelaide and played in the South Australian National Football League for South Adelaide as a tall attacking defender, where he played for two seasons. Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
Woodville-West Torrens Football Club is an Australian rules football club playing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). It was formed in 1990 from an amalgamation of the neighbouring Woodville and West Torrens football clubs and played its inaugural game in 1991. Since 1993, the Eagles have played most of their home games at Woodville's home ground of Woodville Oval, having previously used Football Park. Magarey Medal
The Magarey Medal is an Australian rules football honour awarded annually since 1898 to the fairest and most brilliant player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), as judged by field umpires. The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league. The current recipient is Aaron Young. History William Magarey was born in Adelaide, South Australia. A lawyer by vocation, he had an enduring interest in sports, although he did not play football. He was, however, an active sports administrator who, in 1897, became the inaugural Chairman of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL).
