2016 Pittsburgh Riverhounds Season
The 2016 Pittsburgh Riverhounds season was the club's seventeenth season of existence. It is the Riverhounds' six season playing in the United Soccer League, and the club's fourth season hosting matches at soccer-specific Highmark Stadium. Preseason On November 2, 2015 it was announced that Richard Nightingale was no longer with the team and that Shallenberger had taken over as acting president. After one season without an MLS affiliate, it was announced that the club had formed an affiliate partnership with the reigning Eastern Conference playoff champion and MLS Cup runner-up Columbus Crew SC for the 2016 season. Pittsburgh Riverhounds
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is an American professional soccer team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1999 and beginning play in 1999, the club plays in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. Since 2013, the Riverhounds have played their home games at the 5,000-seat Highmark Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium located in Station Square. Their current head coach is Bob Lilley. Saint Lucian international David Flavius currently holds the club records for most appearances and goals which he set over his eight seasons with the Riverhounds between 1999 and 2006. In June 2017, the Riverhounds entered into a developmental partnership with the Ocean City Nor'easters of the Premier Development League, running through the 2018 season. FirstEnergy Stadium–Cub Cadet Field, formerly known as Lee R. Jackson Soccer Field, is a soccer-specific stadium on the campus of the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, United States. Sergio Akeen Campbell (born 16 January 1992) is a Jamaican international footballer who plays as a defender for Stumptown Athletic in the National Independent Soccer Association. The Akron Zips men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the University of Akron. The team is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Mid-American Conference through the 2022 season, after which it will join the Big East Conference as a single-sport member. Tyler John Anderson (born December 30, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). Charles Robbins Mertz Jr. (born December 4, 1996) is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for USL Championship club Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Career College and amateur Mertz played four years of college soccer at the University of Michigan between 2015 and 2018. Stephen Okai (born 27 September 1989) is a former Ghanaian footballer and current coach. Career College & Amateur Okai played four years of college soccer at the University of Mobile. Okai won the National Player of the Year award in NAIA and was a three-time All-American.
