The 2016 PGA Tour Canada, titled as the 2016 Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada for sponsorship reasons, was the 31st season of the Canadian Tour, and the fourth under the operation and running of the PGA Tour. Unofficial events The following events were sanctioned by the PGA Tour Canada, but did not carry official money, nor were wins official. Order of Merit The Order of Merit was based on prize money won during the season, calculated in Canadian dollars. Aaron Wise (born June 21, 1996) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. In 2018 he earned his inaugural win on the PGA Tour at the AT&T Byron Nelson and was named the 2018 Rookie of the Year. PGA Tour Canada, commonly referred to as the Canadian Tour, is a men's professional golf tour headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The United States based PGA Tour took over operation of the tour on November 1, 2012, at which time it was renamed PGA Tour Canada. In 2015, Mackenzie Investments became the umbrella sponsor of the tour, branding it as the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada. PGA Tour Canada is one of three international PGA Tour-sanctioned tours, along with PGA Tour China and PGA Tour Latinoamérica. These provide access to the Korn Ferry Tour and are part of the path to the PGA Tour. PGA Tour Latinoamérica is a third level professional golf tour formed in 2012 and operated by the PGA Tour. It was formed in concert with the now defunct Tour de las Américas. Executives from the Tour de las Américas became employees of the new tour. PGA Tour Latinoamérica is one of a number of lower-tier tours that factor into the Official World Golf Ranking, awarding a minimum of six points to the winner and points to the top six plus ties. The top five in the tour's Order of Merit earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour, with the money leader being fully exempt. The Order of Merit Winner also receives the Roberto De Vicenzo Award, named after one of the first golf stars to come out of Latin America. Players finishing 6th-50th retain privileges on PGA Tour Latinoamérica, but can also advance to the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament depending on position. Aruba Cup
The Aruba Cup was an annual team golf competition between teams representing PGA Tour Latinoamérica and PGA Tour Canada. It was founded in 2016 and took place in December. The 2016 and 2017 events were held at the Tierra del Sol Resort, Spa & Country Club near Noord, Aruba. In 2018 the event was played at Cozumel Country Club on the island of Cozumel in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula and was called the Cozumel Cup. Format The teams consisted of 10 golfers from each tour. The tournament was played over three days with 5 fourball matches on the first day, 5 foursomes on the second day and 10 singles matches on the final day. One point was awarded for each win and a half point for a halved match. With a total of 20 points, a team needed to get 10.5 points to win the Cup. Paul Barjon
Paul Barjon (born 19 September 1992) is a French professional golfer, who won the 2019 PGA Tour Canada Order of Merit. Early life and amateur career Barjon was born in Bordeaux, France to parents Alain and Marie. However, he grew up in New Caledonia, a French territory in the Pacific. He has a brother named Louis. As a youth, he won the 2009 New Caledonia Amateur Championship, 2010 Grand Prix of Baron, and 2011 French Club Team Championship. He attended high school at Lycée Polyvalent in Antibes, France. The Tour Championship of Canada is an annual golf tournament played on PGA Tour Canada, commonly known as the Canadian Tour. It is the last tournament played in the season, and in 2022 had a purse of Canadian dollar, C$225,000. The tournament was founded in 2002 as the Bay Mills Open, hosted at the Bay Mills Resort in Brimley, Michigan, United States, and became designated as the Canadian Tour's "Players Championship" the following year. In 2006, the tournament moved to Ontario, Canada as the new Canadian Tour Championship. It has since remained in Ontario, and adopted different names under various title sponsors.
