The 2016 League of Ireland First Division season was the 32nd season of the League of Ireland First Division. On 28 August, Limerick clinched the title and promotion after a 3–2 win away to UCD. Overview The First Division has 8 teams. Each team played each other four times, twice at home and twice away, for a total of 28 matches in the season. The eight clubs competed for a prize fund of €104,000 with the winners receiving €30,000 and the eighth placed team collecting €8,000. The League of Ireland First Division ( ga, Céad Roinn Sraith na hÉireann), also known as the SSE Airtricity League First Division, is the second level division in both the League of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland football league system. The division was formed in 1985. It replaced the League of Ireland B Division as the League of Ireland's second level division. Since 2003 the First Division has operated as a summer league. Head In The Game Park, also known as United Park, and formerly O2 Park and Hunky Dorys Park for sponsorship purposes, is a football stadium in Drogheda, Ireland. Eddie Gormley
Eddie Gormley (born 23 October 1968) is an Irish football coach and former player who is currently manager of Cabinteely. Early career Educated at Cabinteely Community School where he played for the School Junior & Senior teams, and also playing schoolboy football with St Joseph's Boys, Gormley joined League of Ireland side Bray Wanderers in the summer of 1987. He made his League of Ireland debut for Bray at Derry City F.C. on the opening day of the 1987–88 League of Ireland Premier Division season on 13 September 1987. He scored his first league goal at Dalymount Park on 9 October. After only a handful of appearances Gormley impressed in a trial at Tottenham Hotspur and was signed on a three-year contract in November 1987. Alan Mathews (born 27 June 1965) is a former Irish football player and manager. He is currently technical director at St Patrick's Athletic. Coaching career Following a stint as assistant at Shelbourne, Alan Mathews became Longford manager in the summer of 2002. He went on to become the most successful manager in Longford Town's history, delivering their first senior trophy with a 2–0 win over St. Patrick's in the 2003 FAI Cup Final at Lansdowne Road. Waterford Regional Sports Centre
The Waterford Regional Sports Centre (or simply, the RSC) is part of Waterford Corporation's Municipal sporting facilities and home to Waterford F.C. of the League of Ireland. Waterford moved to the newly opened RSC from their former home, Kilcohan Park for the 1993-94 season and have remained there ever since. Included on another site is an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, an indoor hall, football pitches and tennis courts. The complex also had a Skateboard Park. The RSC comprises two stands. The Cork Road West Stand, opened in May 1996 has capacity of 1,275 seats. The new Kilbarry side East Stand which holds 1,760 opened in May 2008 and brings seating capacity to 3,035. Tolka Park ( ga, Páirc na Tulchann) is an Irish football ground located in the north Dublin suburb of Drumcondra, on the northern banks of the River Tolka. It is currently the home ground of League of Ireland club Shelbourne.
