2016 LFA Season
The 2016 LFA season was the inaugural season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on February 21 and concluded on April 3. The Tazón México I was played on April 10 with the Mayas defeating the Raptors to win the first LFA championship. News The Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (Professional American Football League) was officially presented on January 12, 2016, by Miguel Ángel Mancera, Head of Government of the Federal District from 2012 to 2018. Four teams would take part in the first season, all of them, newly created clubs: Condors, Eagles, Mayas and Raptors. All the games would be played at the Estadio Jesús Martínez "Palillo" of the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City, including the championship game, the Tazón México I. Mayas CDMX
The Mayas, also called Mayas LFA or Mayas Puebla, were an American football team based in Mexico City (CDMX), Mexico. The Mayas competed in the Central Division of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The Mayas played their home games at the Estadio Wilfrido Massieu. Mayas was the most successful team in the LFA until it folded in 2020, winning the championship twice in 2016 and 2017, and qualifying for playoffs every season as of 2019. History Club origins The club was founded on 4 November 2015 as one of the charter members of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, alongside Condors, Eagles and Raptors. The team picked navy blue and white as their colours. Raptors de Naucalpan (English: ''Naucalpan Raptors'') are an American football team based in Naucalpan, Mexico. The Raptors compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio José Ortega Martínez. Despite never winning an LFA title, the Raptors are the only team to have reached playoffs every season. History The team was founded on 4 November 2015 and is one of the four charter members of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional. Rafael Duk era (2016–2017) In their first season, the Raptors finished second in the league with a 4–2 regular season record, qualifying for the Tazón México I. Omar Cojolum
Omar Alejandro Cojolum Delgado (born 15 June 1990) is a Mexican professional gridiron football running back for the Dinos de Saltillo of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). Cojolum played college football at the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM). He started his professional career in 2016 with the Mayas CDMX, winning the 2016 and 2017 Tazón México. In 2020, after spending the offseason with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL), Cojolum returned to Mexico and was signed by Dinos de Saltillo. Early life Cojolum was born on 15 June 1990 and was raised in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, close to Mexico City, by his mother.
