2016 LEN Super Cup
The 2016 LEN Super Cup was the 35th edition of the annual trophy organised by LEN and contested by the reigning champions of the two European competitions for men's water polo clubs. The match took place between Croatian side VK Jug ( 2015–16 European Champions) and Italian side AN Brescia (Euro Cup's holder) at the Gruž City Pool in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 14 December 2016. The teams already faced each other in the 2006 edition. Jug defeated Brescia as it happened 10 years before and won the trophy for the second time, while the Italian team lost the Super Cup final for the third time in its history. VK Jug
Vaterpolski klub Jug ( en, Jug Water Polo Club) is a professional water polo club based in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The club was established in 1923 as part of sports society "JUG". As of the 2021–22 season, VK Jug competes in the Croatian League, Regional League A1 and LEN Champions League. History 1923–1941 Since establishment in 1923, Jug was one of the most successful water polo clubs in Yugoslavia. It won fourteen Yugoslav Water Polo Championship titles in Kingdom of Yugoslavia. 1945–1991 During the existence of SFR Yugoslavia, Jug was among the elite Yugoslav water polo clubs, winning a total of eights Yugoslav Water Polo Championship titles; three in a row from 1949 to 1951, four in a row from 1980 to 1983, and their last one in 1985. Josip Vrlić
Josip Vrlić (born 25 April 1986) is a Croatian professional water polo player. He was part of the Brazilian team at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and 2016 Summer Olympics. He won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. His younger brother Mislav is also water polo player, playing for VK Primorje from Rijeka. Xavier García Gadea (born 5 January 1984) is a Spanish-Croatian water polo player. He was a member of the Spain national team between 1999 and 2013, finishing in sixth place at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, fifth at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and sixth again at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In 2003, García, then playing for CN Barcelona-Noferthe, ended up in fifth place with the national side at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in his home town of Barcelona.
