2016 Johannesburg Flood
The 2016 Johannesburg flood was a natural disaster in South Africa that took place on 9 November 2016. The flooding, which occurred in the area east of Johannesburg, affected both Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Ekurhuleni. The storm and flash floods caused significant damage to the township of Alexandra, Gauteng, Alexandra, while the suburb of Buccleuch, Gauteng, Buccleuch was declared a disaster area. The flooding was caused by a significant cloud burst from a convective system. Flood event On the afternoon of 9 November, a severe thunderstorm moved across Gauteng bringing with it rain and hail. Unconfirmed reports estimate that between 90 mm and 150 mm of rain fell within an hour leading to flash floods. According to the South African Weather Service, O.R. Johannesburg is a large city in Gauteng Province of South Africa. It was established as a small village controlled by a Health Committee in 1886 with the discovery of an outcrop of a gold reef on the farm Langlaagte. The Johannesburg Zoo is a zoo in Johannesburg, South Africa. The zoo is dedicated to the accommodation, enrichment, husbandry, and medical care of wild animals, and houses about 2000 individuals of 320 species. Bedfordview is an affluent suburb in western Ekurhuleni, sharing an administrative boundary with the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng, South Africa. Midrand
Midrand is a former municipality in central Gauteng, South Africa. It is situated in-between Centurion and Sandton and now forms part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.
