Sailing (sport)
The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Most competitions are held within defined classes or ratings that either entail one type of sailing craft to ensure a contest primarily of skill or rating the sailing craft to create classifications or handicaps. On water, a sailing competition among multiple vessels is a regatta, which usually consists of multiple individual races, where the boat crew that performs best in over the series of races is the overall winner. The Men's 49er was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2016 Summer Olympics program in Rio de Janeiro and took place between 12–18 August at Marina da Glória. 13 races (the last one a medal race) were held. Kahena Kunze (born 12 March 1991) is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Together with Martine Grael she won the 49er FX class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and a gold medal in the inaugural 49er FX race, during the 2016 Rio Olympics, a feat both repeated at Tokyo 2020. Martine Soffiatti Grael (born 12 February 1991) is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Together with Kahena Kunze she won the 49er FX class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Career Martine Grael is the daughter of Olympic gold medalist in sailing Torben Grael. Her brother Marco and uncle Lars also sailed in the Olympics. Iain Valjean Jensen (born 23 May 1988 in Belmont, New South Wales) is an Australian sailor. He started sailing in his hometown of Wangi Wangi when he was five years old, with his Olympic and Artemis Racing teammate Nathan Outteridge. With Outteridge, he won the 2009 and 2011 49er World Championships and gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49ers class. The team also won silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the NSW Institute of Sport in Sydney and a wing trimmer for Artemis Racing. He lives in Lake Macquarie.
