Paolo Poli
Paolo Poli (May 23, 1929 – March 25, 2016) was an Italian theatre actor. He has also acted in films and on television. Career After a university degree in French literature, Poli began his acting career in the early 1950s and was one of the first actors in Italy to perform en travesti roles. He is considered to be one of the greatest and most versatile of Italian theatrical actors. He has acted in and directed a host of operettas, among which ''Aldino mi cali un filino'', ''Rita of Cascia'', ''Caterina de Medici'', ''L'asino d'oro'', ''Gulliver's Travels'', ''La leggenda di San Gregorio'', ''Il coturno della ciabatta'', and ''La nemica'' by Dario Niccodemi. His ''Rita of Cascia'' prompted complaints from Italian president Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. Well into his eighties, he continued performing on stage, most recently in ''Sillabari'' by Goffredo Parise and ''Aquiloni'', taken from Giovanni Pascoli. Umberto Eco
Umberto Eco (5 January 1932 – 19 February 2016) was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel ''The Name of the Rose'', a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as ''Foucault's Pendulum,'' his 1988 novel which touches on similar themes. Eco wrote prolifically throughout his life, with his output including children's books, translations from French and English, in addition to a twice-monthly newspaper column "La Bustina di Minerva" (Minerva's Matchbook) in the magazine ''L'Espresso'' beginning in 1985, with his last column (a critical appraisal of the Romantic paintings of Francesco Hayez) appearing 27 January 2016. Ettore Scola
Ettore Scola (; 10 May 1931 – 19 January 2016) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. He received a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 1978 for his film ''A Special Day'' and over the course of his film career was nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. Life and career Scola was born in Trevico, Avellino, Campania. From age 15, he became a ghostwriter. He entered the film industry as a screenwriter in 1953, and collaborated with director Dino Risi and fellow writer Ruggero Maccari on the screenplay for Risi's feature, ''Il Sorpasso'' (1962). He directed his first film, ''Let's Talk About Women'', in 1964. In 1974 Scola enjoyed international success with '' We All Loved Each Other So Much'' (''C'eravamo tanto amati''), a wide fresco of post-World War II Italian life and politics, dedicated to fellow director Vittorio De Sica. Franco Citti
Franco Citti (; 23 April 1935 – 14 January 2016) was an Italian actor, best known as one of the close collaborators of director Pier Paolo Pasolini. He came to fame for playing the title role in Pasolini's film ''Accattone'', which brought him a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Foreign Actor. He subsequently starred in six of Pasolini's films, as well as 60 other film and television roles. His brother was the director and screenwriter Sergio Citti. Biography Citti was born in Fiumicino in 1935 and was raised with his older brother Sergio Citti, working as a painter and day laborer. At the age of 26, he was discovered by Pier Paolo Pasolini, who appreciated his distinctly Roman features, and cast him in the title role of his 1961 directorial debut ''Accattone''. Citti lead a cast of other non-professional actors, and proved the breakthrough of the cast, earning a BAFTA Award nomination for a Best Foreign Actor, as well as a nomination for a Nastro d'Argento for Best Actor. ...

Valerio Zanone
Valerio Zanone (22 January 1936 – 7 January 2016) was an Italian politician, who was formerly secretary and president of the Italian Liberal Party (''Partito Liberale Italiano''; PLI). He was also a senator for the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (''Partito Democratico''; PD), and was mayor of Turin from 1990 to 1992. Biography Zanone was born in Turin. He graduated in philosophy from the University of Turin. Preci
Preci is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Perugia in the Italian region Umbria, located about 60 km southeast of Perugia. It is a medieval burg (13th century) developed inside a fortress, which was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake in 1328. Preci borders the following municipalities: Castelsantangelo sul Nera, Cerreto di Spoleto, Norcia, Visso. The old centre of Preci was badly damaged in the October 2016 Central Italy Earthquakes. Norcia
Norcia (), traditionally known in English by its Latin name of Nursia (), is a town and comune in the province of Perugia (Italy) in southeastern Umbria. Unlike many ancient towns, it is located in a wide plain abutting the Monti Sibillini, a subrange of the Apennines with some of its highest peaks, near the Sordo River, a small stream that eventually flows into the Nera. The town is popularly associated with the Valnerina (the valley of that river). The area is known for its air and scenery, and is a base for mountaineering and hiking.
