2016 Il Lombardia
The 2016 Il Lombardia (also known as the Giro di Lombardia or the Tour of Lombardy) took place in Lombardy in Northern Italy on 1 October 2016. It was the 110th edition of the Il Lombardia road bicycle race and the closing event of the 2016 UCI World Tour. Colombian rider Esteban Chaves won the race in a three-man sprint in Bergamo with Italian Diego Rosa and his countryman Rigoberto Urán. Teams The 18 UCI World Tour teams were automatically invited and obliged to line up. The race organisation invited seven further UCI Professional Continental teams with wildcards. 2016 UCI World Tour
The 2016 UCI World Tour was a competition that included 27 road cycling events throughout the 2016 men's cycling season. It was the eighth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 19 January, and concluded with Il Lombardia on 1 October. Spain's Alejandro Valverde was the two-times defending champion. Valverde was unable to defend his title, as he finished fourth in the individual rankings. The title was won for the first time by Slovakian rider Peter Sagan for the team, scoring 669 points over the course of the season. This included victories at Gent–Wevelgem, the Tour of Flanders and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. Pierre Latour (born 12 October 1993) is a French cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . He is a stage winner of the Vuelta a España, and twice the winner of French National Time Trial Championships. Career Latour was born in Romans-sur-Isère. Due to a clerical error when he was an amateur, Latour is more commonly known with a "Roger" in his name as Pierre-Roger Latour. Alessandro De Marchi (born 19 May 1986) is an Italian professional road and track bicycle racer who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in San Daniele del Friuli, De Marchi has competed as a professional since the start of the 2011 season, joining the squad after a stagiaire spell with the team at the end of the 2010 season. Warren Barguil (; born 28 October 1991) is a French cyclist, who rides for UCI ProTeam . He is best known for winning two mountain stages and the mountains classification of the 2017 Tour de France. Robert Gesink
Robert Gesink (born 31 May 1986) is a Dutch professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . His major victories include the 2012 Tour of California, the 2011 Tour of Oman and the 2010 Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. Gesink also won the Giro dell'Emilia twice and offered some good performances on Grand Tours and one-week stage races, thanks in part to his climbing and time trialing abilities. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. Road Bicycle Race
Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators.
