The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. Renata Śliwińska
Renata Śliwińska (born 5 September 1996) is a Polish Paralympic athlete competing in F40-classification discus throw and shot put events. She won the gold medal in the women's shot put F40 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. In this event, she is also a two-time gold medalist at the World Para Athletics European Championships and a three-time medalist, including gold, at the World Para Athletics Championships. Career In 2016, Śliwińska represented Poland at the Summer Paralympics and she competed in both the women's discus throw F41 and women's shot put F40 events. F56 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position. The seating field event class used to be known as lower 4, upper 5. Different disability groups compete in this class, including people with amputations and spinal cord injuries. Events that may be on the program for F56 competitors include the discus throw, shot put and javelin. Definition International Paralympic Committee defined this classification on their website in July 2016, "Athletes have full arm and trunk muscle power. Pelvic stability is provided by some to full ability to press the knees together. Hip abductor and hip extensor muscles are typically absent. Martina Willing
Martina Monika Willing (born 3 October 1959) is a Paralympic athlete from Germany competing in field events. She is both blind and paraplegic. Until 1994 she competed in the F11 classification for vision impaired athletes; following her paralysis, she returned to competition as a seated thrower. Willing has competed and medalled in eight Paralympic Games - all seven summer games from 1992 in Barcelona to 2016 in Rio as well as at the 1994 winter games in Lillehammer. Ivanka Koleva
Ivanka Koleva ( bg, Иванка Колева) (born 9 December 1968) is a Paralympian track and field athlete from Bulgaria competing mainly in throwing events in the T57 classification. Koleva has represented Bulgaria at four Summer Paralympics from 2000 to 2012, winning gold in the shot put in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney. She was also world champion in the discus in 1994, and competed once as a powerlifter in the 2008 Summer Paralympics at Beijing. Personal history Koleva was born in Chirpan Bulgaria in 1968. Her mother had a kidney problem during pregnancy and was given a medication which had a harmful effect on the foetus. Due to this Koleva was born with impairments to her legs which resulted in them being amputated when she was six years-old. F57 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position. This class is for people with limb deficiencies not covered by other classes. It includes people who are members of the ISOD A1 and A9 classes. Events open to people in this class include the shot put, discus and javelin.
