2016 Hammarby Fotboll Season
The 2016 season was Hammarby Fotboll's 101st in existence, their 47th season in Allsvenskan and their 2nd consecutive season in the league. They competed in Allsvenskan and Svenska Cupen during the year. League play started in early April and lasted until early November. Nanne Bergstrand made his third season as manager. Summary The team had a strong run in the 2015-16 Svenska Cupen. They won against Djurgårdens IF in the group stage, before eliminating their other local rival AIK in the quarter finals after a penalty shoot-out. Eventually Hammarby lost in the semi final against BK Häcken, finishing joint third in the tournament. However, during the first half of the league play Hammarby struggled in their fixtures, only winning 3 of the 15 games. One of the few highlights were the performances of midfielder Erik Israelsson who managed to score 8 goals during the same period. Hammarby IF Fotbollförening, more commonly known as Hammarby Fotboll or Hammarby ( or, especially locally, ), is a Swedish football club from Stockholm founded in 1915. The club is based at Tele2 Arena in Johanneshov but founded in the neighbouring Södermalm district of Stockholm City Centre, an area the club considers its heartland. Competing in Sweden's first tier, Allsvenskan, Hammarby are placed tenth in the all-time Allsvenskan table, and has won the league once, in 2001. Fredrik Torsteinbø (born 13 March 1991) is a Norwegian footballer who plays for Sandnes Ulf. Club career He started his senior career in the Norwegian team Vidar in 2009. In 2011, he signed for Norwegian team Sandnes Ulf. He made his debut on 3 April 2011 against Bryne, they lost the game 0–1. Arnór Smárason (born 7 September 1988) is an Icelandic footballer who plays for Icelandic second-tier 1. deild karla side ÍA Akranes. He can play in all the positions on the midfield. Early life Arnór was born in Akranes, Iceland, and is a cousin of Pétur Pétursson. Kennedy Bakircioglu (born 2 November 1980) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is best remembered for his time with Hammarby IF, with whom he won the 2001 Allsvenskan and 2014 Superettan titles. Stefan Batan ( ;born 20 March 1985) is a Swedish footballer who plays for Assyriska FF as a defender. Career Batan began his career at Assyriska Föreningen. He made his first appearance in the first-team squad in Superettan during the 2003 season. Johan "Sheriffen" Persson (born 20 June 1984) is a Swedish former footballer who played as a midfielder. Career He began his senior career at the Scanian club IFK Hässleholm in the lower divisions, before getting signed by Mjällby AIF in 2006. Two years later he made a switch to Landskrona BoIS in the Swedish second tier, Superettan. Richard Göran Emil Magyar (; born 3 May 1991) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Birkir Már Sævarsson (born 11 November 1984) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a defender for Úrvalsdeild side Valur.
