2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship
The 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship for Men was an international basketball competition that was held in Valdivia, Chile from July 19–23, 2016. It was the tenth edition of the championship, and was the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. Eight national teams from across the Americas, composed of men aged 19 and under, competed in the tournament. The United States men's national under-19 basketball team, United States won their fourth consecutive gold medal, and eighth overall, in this event by beating Canada national under-19 basketball team, Canada in the final, 99–84. Lautaro Berra
Lautaro (Anglicized as 'Levtaru') ( arn, Lef-Traru " swift hawk") (; 1534? – April 29, 1557) was a young Mapuche toqui known for leading the indigenous resistance against Spanish conquest in Chile and developing the tactics that would continue to be employed by the Mapuche during the long-running Arauco War. Levtaru was captured by Spanish forces in his early youth, and he spent his teenage years as a personal servant of chief conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, but escaped in 1551. Back among his people he was declared toqui and led Mapuche warriors into a series of victories against the Spanish, culminating in the Battle of Tucapel in December 1553, where Pedro of Valdivia was killed. The outbreak of a typhus plague, a drought and a famine prevented the Mapuche from taking further actions to expel the Spanish in 1554 and 1555. Lionel Jr. "L. J." Figueroa Mercado (born March 28, 1998) is a Dominican and American professional basketball player for Ratiopharm Ulm of the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and the EuroCup. He played college basketball for the Odessa Wranglers, the St. John's Red Storm, and the Oregon Ducks.
