Statistics of DPR Korea Football League in the 2016 season. Overview The Highest Class Football League champions was Kigwanch'a, with April 25 and Amrokkang finishing second and third respectively. Unusually, the competition was played with a play-off format to decide the championship. Ryŏmyŏng made their Highest Class League debut. Eight teams advanced to the quarter-finals; the only results known are that on 25 October Kigwancha beat Hwaebul 2–1, and Amrokkang defeated Sobaeksu 3–1; both these matches were played at Sŏsan Stadium in P'yŏngyang. It is known that April 25 won their quarter-final match, but their opponent is unknown, as is the match-up of the fourth quarter-final match; the semi-final matches are likewise unknown. Kigwancha went on to defeat April 25 in the final. February 8 Sports Club () is a North Korean multi-sports club. History Being established in 1959, the club belongs to the Ministry of People's Armed Forces. The club name originated from the Korean People's Army's (KPA) date of establishment, which was formed in 8 February 1948. (Until 1977, the original KPA's official date of establishment was 8 February 1948. However, in 1978, it was changed to 25 April 1932, due to Kim Il Sung's anti-Japanese guerilla army – the , considered the predecessor of the KPA – being formed on 25 April 1932. This change was reverted in 2018). Confusion with April 25 Sports Club February 8 Sports Club and April 25 Sports Club have many similarities. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. Kim Il-sung Stadium
Kim Il-sung Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea. The stadium is used primarily for association football matches. History Kim Il-sung Stadium was originally named the Girimri Stadium (기림리공설운동장) in 1926. This stadium held the annual Kyungsung FC–Pyongyang FC rivalry, Kyung-Pyong Football Match between Kyungsung FC and Pyongyang FC during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. After the division of Korea, it was used as a venue for speeches by politicians. On 14 October 1945, it was the site of Kim Il-sung's victory speech after the liberation of Pyongyang, called "Every Effort for the Building of a New Democratic Korea." Most of the stadium was destroyed during the 1950-1953 Korean War, mostly by U.S. aerial bombing of the capital city during those years.
