2016 Copa Chile
The 2016 Copa Chile, (officially known as Copa Chile MTS 2016 because of its sponsorship), was the 37th edition of the Copa Chile, the country's national cup tournament. The competition started on 8 July 2016 with the First Round and ended on 14 December 2016 with the Final. Colo-Colo were the winners after beating Everton 4–0 in the final, and qualified for the 2017 Copa Libertadores and the 2017 Supercopa de Chile. As the runners-up, Everton qualified for the 2017 Copa Sudamericana. Format The Copa Chile MTS 2016 was based on a system of direct elimination, similar to the Copa del Rey. In the first round match the 15 teams of Primera B faced against the 16 of the Premier Division (with the exception of Universidad de Chile, defending champions, who entered the competition at the round of 16). Copa Chile
The Copa Chile (''Chile Cup'') is an annual cup competition for Chilean football teams. Due to time constraints and club pressure, the trophy was cancelled in 2000, but returned in 2008. Its precursor was the Campeonato de Apertura (''Opening Championship''), played from 1933 to 1950. The cup is now open to every member club of the Chilean football league system, from professional teams; ( Primera División, Primera B & Segunda División), down to teams from the ANFA: Tercera División. Since the season 2009, the winners obtained a direct Copa Sudamericana spot for the next season, however this was change starting from the 2015 edition; since then the winners obtains a direct Copa Libertadores spot for the next season. Unión La Calera
Unión La Calera is a Chilean football club based in La Calera and competes the Primera División de Chile. It was founded as Club de Deportes La Calera on 26 January 1954, after the merger of three teams from the city: ''Condor'', ''Calera Comercio'' and ''Tifón''. The following year, Deportes La Calera joined ''Club de Deportes Melón'' (originated by the merger between Cemento Melón and Minas Navío) to form Unión La Calera. After spending six seasons in second level, the club obtained its first promotion to Primera División de Chile in 1961, category where they remained until 1974. In 1985, they returned to top-tier, but they were relegated the incoming season. Deportes Iberia is a Chilean football club based in Los Ángeles that currently plays in Primera B (second-tier). The club hold its home games at Estadio Municipal de Los Ángeles which has a capacity of 5,000 spectators. In 1933, the club was officially established as Deportes Iberia, basing in Conchalí (Santiago). Then Iberia joined the Asociación de Fútbol de Santiago, but recently in 1946 the club joined Primera División, spending there eight years until the 1954 season when they, after finishing in the bottom of the table, were relegated to second-tier, being the first Chilean relegated team in its football history. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). Deportes Magallanes is a Chilean Football team based in San Bernardo, Chile. They will play in the Primera División de Chile starting from 2023 after winning the 2022 Primera B championship. The club was founded on October 27, 1897 with the name Atlético Escuela Normal F.C.. In 1933 they became the first national champions of Chile. They won a hat trick of titles in the formative years of Chilean football (1933, 1934 and 1935) but their last major title came in 1938. Deportes Temuco is a Chilean football club based in Temuco, Araucanía Region. It currently plays in the Chilean Primera División B, holding home games at the new '' Estadio Municipal Germán Becker''. The club was founded on February 22, 1960, as ''Deportes Temuco'' and again on March 20, 1965, after a merger with Green Cross. Until 1984, the club was known as ''Green Cross – Temuco'', and, in 2007, changed its name to ''Deportivo Temuco'', only on that season. Club Social de Deportes Rangers is a Chilean football club based in the city of Talca. The club was founded November 2, 1902 and plays in the second level of the Chilean football system.
