The 2016 Chicago Marathon was the 39th edition of the marathon race in Chicago, Illinois, United States and was held October 9. Over 37,000 runners took part in the marathon. Abel Kirui
Abel Kirui (born 6 April 1982) is a long-distance runner from Kenya who competes in marathons. He had back-to-back wins in the World Championship marathon in 2009 and 2011. Kirui won in 2009 with a time of 2:06:54, then defended his title with a winning margin of two minutes and 28 seconds – the largest ever margin at the World Championship event. He earned the silver medal in the 2012 London Olympic marathon. He has also won the 2008 Vienna City Marathon, the 2016 Chicago Marathon and was runner-up at the 2007 Berlin Marathon and 2017 Chicago Marathon. Stephen Sambu (born July 7, 1988, in Kenya) is a Kenyan long distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. College career Stephen Sambu ran for the University of Arizona, where he was coached by James Li, who is also Bernard Lagat's long-term coach. For the Arizona Wildcats he was runner-up in the 10,000 meters at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, runner-up at the 2012 NCAA Men's Division I Cross Country Championship, and a 9-time All-American. Joshua George (born March 18, 1984) is a Paralympian athlete from the United States competing in category T53 events ranging from sprints to the marathon. Sarah Crouch (22 August, 1989) is an American long-distance runner who has represented Team USA in the marathon. During her collegiate career at Western Washington University, she was an NCAA Division II All-American thirteen times and won the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship in the 10,000m. An alumnus of Auburn University, he is also a financial management technician in the United States Army and competes in marathons as a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.
