2016 Central Florida Jaguars Season
The Central Florida Jaguars, commonly known as the Jags, were a professional indoor football team based in Lakeland, Florida. The Jags were the third indoor football team to call Lakeland home; the first team was the Lakeland Thunderbolts which played in the National Indoor Football League from 2005 until 2006 and later the American Indoor Football Association in 2007 (where they won the AIFA Championship Bowl that year before folding). Bartow, Florida
Bartow ( ) is the county seat of Polk County, Florida, United States. Founded in 1851 as Fort Blount, the city was renamed in honor of Francis S. Bartow, the first brigade commander of the Confederate Army to die in combat during the American Civil War. According to the 2010 Census, the city had a population of 17,298 and an estimated population of 20,147 in 2019. The Florida Marine Raiders (formerly the Lakeland Raiders) were a professional indoor football team; though they began play in 2012 as a member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League, for 2014 they became a charter member of the X-League Indoor Football (X-League). The Raiders were based in Lakeland, Florida, with home games played at the Lakeland Center. The 2016 Florida Tarpons season was the fifth season for the American indoor football franchise, and their first in American Indoor Football. On October 7, 2015, the Tarpons announced that they were joining American Indoor Football. In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). 2016 American Indoor Football Season
The 2016 American Indoor Football season was the eleventh and final season of American Indoor Football (AIF). The regular season began February 27, 2016, and ended on May 23, 2016. Each team played a game schedule of varying lengths. League changes During the offseason there were several membership changes in the league that saw only four of the nine teams return from the previous season. However, the league would end up starting the season with 18 full member teams, two travel only teams, and one affiliated provisional team. Returning teams *Chicago Blitz returned for their second season in the AIF. However, the team would cancel its last game and announce the team was for sale at the end of the season. *Maryland Eagles returned for their fourth season in the AIF. Ronnie Ghent
Ronnie Jerome Ghent (born January 5, 1980) is a former American football fullback and former head coach of the Central Florida Jaguars of American Indoor Football (AIF). He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played college football at Louisville. Ghent has also been a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, New York Sentinels and Hartford Colonials. Early years Ghent attended Lakeland Senior High School in Lakeland, Florida and was a letterman in football, basketball, and track. In football, he was a three-year letterman and as a senior, he was named as a first-team All-Polk County selection by the Tampa Tribune. Ghent graduated in 1999. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional American football team based in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jaguars compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at TIAA Bank Field. Founded alongside the Carolina Panthers in 1995 as an expansion team, the Jaguars competed in the AFC Central until they were moved to the AFC South in 2002.
