2016 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 2016 Calgary Stampeders season was the 59th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 82nd overall. The Stampeders finished in 1st place in the West Division and finished with a 15–2–1 record. The Stampeders qualified for the playoffs for the 12th straight year and advanced to the Grey Cup game where they lost to the Ottawa Redblacks. This season was Dave Dickenson's first year as head coach after John Hufnagel moved into a strict general manager role. In the early morning hours of September 25, 2016, Stampeders defensive back Mylan Hicks was shot and killed at a Calgary nightclub. Fellow defensive back and teammate Jamar Wall changed his jersey number from 29 to no. 31 for the rest of the season in honour of Hicks. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. IG Field (formerly Investors Group Field) is an outdoor stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The stadium, which opened in 2013, is located on the University of Manitoba campus next to University Stadium. TD Place Stadium (originally Lansdowne Park and formerly Frank Clair Stadium) is an outdoor stadium in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. 2016 Ottawa Redblacks Season
The 2016 Ottawa Redblacks season was the third season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Redblacks finished in 1st place in the East Division with an 8–9–1 record. This was the first time in CFL history that a team with a losing record finished first in their division. The club failed to match their 12–6 record from the previous season; nevertheless, with their week 19 win in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers the Redblacks repeated as regular season East Division champions, earning a bye to and the right to host the 2016 East Final in the process. 2016 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Season
The 2016 Winnipeg Blue Bombers season was the 59th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 84th season overall. The Blue Bombers finished in 3rd place in the West Division and finished with an 11–7 record; their first winning season since 2011. The Blue Bombers successfully improved upon their 5–13 record from 2015, after defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Labour Day Classic on September 4. It was their first win in the Classic since 2004. The Blue Bombers qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2011 with a week 16 victory over the BC Lions followed by losses by the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes two days afterward. 2016 BC Lions Season
The 2016 BC Lions season was the 59th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 63rd overall. The Lions finished in 2nd place in the West Division and finished with a 12–6 record. It was only the third time in franchise history that the Lions had finished in second place, and the first time they have done so since 1986. In each of those three years, the Lions hosted and defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West Semi-Final. BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta.
