The 2016 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards took place on 14 April 2016 at the Drygate Brewery. Muriel Gray
Muriel Janet Gray FRSE (born 30 August 1958) is a Scottish author, broadcaster and journalist. She came to public notice as an interviewer on Channel 4's alternative pop-show ''The Tube'', and then appeared as a regular presenter on BBC radio. Gray has written for ''Time Out'', the ''Sunday Herald'' and ''The Guardian'', among other publications, as well as publishing successful horror novels. She was the first woman to have been Rector of the University of Edinburgh and is the first female chair of the board of governors at Glasgow School of Art. Personal life Born in East Kilbride, Gray is of partly Jewish ancestry. She presented a documentary for Channel 4 tracing her Jewish roots on her mother's side, entitled ''The Wondering Jew'' (1996), in which she discovered her maternal line descended from what is now Moldova. BAFTA Scotland
BAFTA in Scotland is the Scottish branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Formed in 1986, the branch holds two annual awards ceremonies recognising the achievement by performers and production staff in Scottish film, television and video games. These Awards are separate from the British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Film Awards. Every year, BAFTA Scotland elects a committee to oversee the constitution and functionality of the organisation. Danny Boyle
Daniel Francis Boyle (born 20 October 1956) is an English director and producer. He is known for his work on films including ''Shallow Grave'', '' Trainspotting'' and its sequel ''T2 Trainspotting'', '' The Beach'', '' 28 Days Later'', '' Sunshine'', ''Slumdog Millionaire'', '' 127 Hours'', '' Steve Jobs ''and '' Yesterday''. British Academy Scotland Awards
The British Academy Scotland Awards are presented annually at an awards ceremony organised by BAFTA Scotland. History The annual British Academy Scotland Awards were launched in 2004 to recognise outstanding achievement by individuals working in the Film and Television industry in Scotland. A long list of potential nominees is put to a popular vote of BAFTA Scotland members. A jury of industry professionals vote for the overall winner from the short list created by the members. A members of the BAFTA Scotland Committee will chair each of the juries. The awards were cancelled in 2010 and prizes at the 2011 ceremony given for films released over the previous 2 years.
