Boston Breakers
The Boston Breakers were an American professional soccer club based in the Boston neighborhood of Allston. The team competed in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). They replaced the original Breakers, who competed in the defunct Women's United Soccer Association, as the Boston area's professional women's soccer team. The Breakers played their home games at Jordan Field in Boston and were managed in their final season by Matt Beard. History Original franchise The original Boston Breakers played in the WUSA from 2001 to 2003. In the final season in the WUSA, the Breakers had their best record (10–4–7) and placed first in the regular season before losing to the Washington Freedom in the semifinals. Whitney Engen
Whitney Elizabeth Engen (born November 28, 1987) is an American soccer player and FIFA Women's World Cup champion. She most recently played as a defender for the United States women's national soccer team as well as the Boston Breakers of the National Women's Soccer League, the highest division of women's soccer in the United States. She first appeared for the United States national team during the 2011 Algarve Cup in a match against Norway on March 4. During her time with the team, she made 40 appearances for the team and scored four goals. Engen has represented the United States in one FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 and one Olympic tournament in 2016. Engen played collegiate soccer with the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2006 to 2009. Brooke Kazuko Elby (born May 24, 1993) is the executive director of the National Women's Soccer League Players Association. An American former soccer midfielder/defender who last played for the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Club career She previously played for the Boston Breakers and Melbourne Victory of the Australian W-League. Elby was a member of the Boston Breakers when they folded in January, 2018. Stephanie Ann Verdoia (born January 2, 1993) is an American soccer player who last played for Vålerenga in the Toppserien. Club career After playing four years at Seattle University, Verdoia was drafted by the Boston Breakers with the 29th pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. Cristen Joan "Christen" Westphal (born September 2, 1993) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for San Diego Wave FC. She previously played for the Portland Thorns, Reign FC, and Boston Breakers, as well as the United States women's national under-23 soccer team. She played collegiate soccer for the Florida Gators. Mollie Elizabeth Pathman (born July 1, 1992) is a retired American association football, soccer Forward (association football), forward and midfielder who played for Boston Breakers in the National Women's Soccer League. Kristen Anne Mewis (born February 25, 1991) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. Louise Anneli Schillgard (; born 23 October 1989) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. She last played for Boston Breakers of the American National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in 2016. Natasha Khalila Dowie (born 30 June 1988) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Women's Super League club Reading.
