2016 Belmont Stakes
The 2016 Belmont Stakes was the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes. The race, known as the "test of the champion", is the final jewel in Thoroughbred horse racing's American Triple Crown series, and was held on June 11, 2016, three weeks after the Preakness Stakes and five weeks after the Kentucky Derby. Belmont Stakes
The Belmont Stakes is an American Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds run at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. It is run over 1.5 miles (2,400 m). Colts and geldings carry a weight of ; fillies carry . The race, nicknamed The Test of the Champion, The Test of Champions and The Run for the Carnations, is the traditional third and final leg of the Triple Crown. Brody's Cause
Brody's Cause (foaled March 17, 2013) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He has won Grade I races at two and three years of age and was regarded as a contender for the 2016 Kentucky Derby. After finishing unplaced on his debut he won a maiden race and then took the Grade I Breeders' Futurity Stakes before finishing third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. In 2016 he ran poorly in the Tampa Bay Derby before taking the Blue Grass Stakes. Background Brody's Cause is a bay horse with a white blaze and three white socks bred in Kentucky by William Arvin Jr., Gabriel Duignan & Petaluma Bloodstock. Exaggerator ( foaled February 5, 2013) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 2016 Preakness Stakes. Racing as a two-year-old in 2015, he won three of his six starts including the Saratoga Special Stakes and the Delta Jackpot Stakes as well as finishing second in the Breeders' Futurity and fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The following spring, he finished second in the San Vicente Stakes and third in the San Felipe Stakes before establishing himself as a contender for the 2016 Kentucky Derby with a six length win in the Santa Anita Derby.
