2016 Australian Swimming Championships
The 2016 Australian Swimming Championships were held from 7 to 14 April 2016 at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide, South Australia. They doubled up as the national trials for the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Events A total of 65 events (32 for men, 32 for women and 1 mixed event) were contested. FINA (french: Fédération internationale de natation, en, International Swimming Federation, link=yes) (to be renamed as World Aquatics by ) is the international federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competitions in water sports. Thomas Fraser-Holmes
Thomas William Fraser-Holmes (born 9 October 1991) is an Australian swimmer who made his international debut in 2010. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he won individual bronze in the men's 200 m freestyle, and gold with the Australian men's 4 x 200 m freestyle relay team. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the men's 200 m freestyle, the 400 m individual medley and the 4 x 200 m freestyle relay. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he won the men's 200 m freestyle, won silver in the men's 400 m individual medley and was part of the Australian team that won gold in the men's 4 x 200 m freestyle relay in a Games record. James Roberts (swimmer)
James Roberts (born 11 April 1991) is an Australian swimmer. He is a two-time medalist at the World Championships (one gold, one silver), and represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Career At the 2011 Australian Swimming Championships, Roberts qualified for the national team by placing second behind James Magnussen in the 100-metre freestyle in a time of 48.72 seconds. At the 2011 World Aquatics Championships, Roberts won a total of two medals, one gold and one silver. Roberts earned both of his medals by swimming in the heats of the 4×100-metre freestyle and medley relay. In the 100-meter freestyle, Roberts did not advance past the semifinals, and finished 10th overall with a time of 48.49. Kyle Chalmers, (born 25 June 1998) is an Australian competitive swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 100 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre medley relay, and long course 4×100 metre mixed freestyle relay. He is the Oceanian and Australian record holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle. At the 2014 Oceania Swimming Championships, Chalmers won the Oceania title in the 50 metre butterfly and 100 metre freestyle. He was the 2016 Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in the 100 metre freestyle, winning the gold medal in world junior record time. James Magnussen
James Magnussen (born 11 April 1991) is a retired Australian swimmer and Olympic medallist. He was the 2011 and 2013 100-metre freestyle world champion, and holds the record for the fifth fastest swim in history in the 100-metre freestyle, with a time of 47.10, which until 2016 also stood as the fastest swim in textile swimwear material. He has won a total of 16 medals in major international competition, eight gold, five silver and three bronze, spanning the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and the Pan Pacific Championships. Matthew Abood
Matthew Abood (born 28 June 1986 in Sydney) is a freestyle swimmer from Australia. He won the bronze medal with the Australian swimming team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as well as the gold medal at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai. Abood won the 50m national title in the 2009 Australian Swimming Championships beating the then reigning world record holder Eamon Sullivan. He regained the 50m national title at the 2011 Australian Swimming Championships and won gold in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay at the World Championships. In 2013, he won gold at the World Swimming Championships in the Mixed 4x50m freestyle relay category. He placed 5th at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in the Men's 50m freestyle heats in Spain. Cameron McEvoy (born 13 May 1994) is an Australian competitive swimmer who represented his country at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics. Career Junior At the 2011 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, McEvoy won gold medals in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle, and a bronze in the 200 m freestyle.
