2016 Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The 2016 Individual Speedway Australian Championship is a Motorcycle speedway competition organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA) for the Australian Solo Championship. The four round series were held between 2 January and 10 January. The rounds were held at the Loxford Park Speedway in Kurri Kurri on 2 January, Undera Park Speedway in Undera on 6 January, Gillman Speedway in Adelaide on 8 January, with the fourth and final round to be held at the Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura on 10 January. Qualification Nine riders were originally seeded to the four round series by Motorcycling Australia. Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The Australian Solo Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year to determine the Australian national champion. It is organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA) and is the oldest continuously running national speedway championship in the world having been run since 1926 with the exception of 1942-1945 when racing was suspended during World War II and 1955-1961 when the championship was not held. The first Australian Solo Championship in 1926 was held at the Newcastle Showground in Newcastle. It was won by American rider Cecil Brown from Mick Brennan and Roy Hindle. Legendary Danish rider Ole Olsen (1976) and Australia's own Jason Crump (2007) are the only riders who have won the championship while being the reigning Speedway World Champion. Joshua Pickering (born 30 November 1996) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career He began his British speedway career riding for Edinburgh in 2017. He began his Championship average at the assessed 5.00 and completed the season with the fifth-highest average of 4.62. By the end of the 2019 season, despite a mid-season injury at Birmingham, his average for the Monarchs was past his assessed average and had reached 6.98. Pickering, however, criticized the Championship league structure as unfair on riders from other countries due to its reduction in their number of matches completed by each team. While still riding for the Monarchs in the Championship in mid-2021, the Sheffield Tigers signed Pickering for their Premiership team. Jordan Stewart is an Australian speedway rider, born 13 November 1998, Mildura, Australia. Career Stewart he won the 2017 Victorian State Under 21 Speedway Championship qualifying for the Australian Championship in which he finished with 15 points after completion of the 4 rounds. Brady Kurtz (born 27 September 1996) is an Australian speedway rider. Biography Born in Cowra, New South Wales, Kurtz isn't the only racer in his family. Brady's older brother Todd Kurtz is a fellow Speedway rider, who has ridden for the Plymouth Devils amongst other teams in the UK. Career Brady got his first break into British Speedway riding in the Premier League with the Somerset Rebels.
