2016 African Cross Country Championships
The 2016 African Cross Country Championships was the fourth edition of the international cross country running competition for African athletes organised by the Confederation of African Athletics. It was held on 12 March at the Yaounde Golf Club in Yaoundé, Cameroon – the first time a West African nation had hosted the event since its re-launch in 2011. There were four races on the program: 10 km for senior men, 8 km for senior women, 7 km for junior men and 5.5 km for junior women. For a fourth successive time, Kenya dominated the event, led by men's winner James Gitahi Rungaru and women's winner Alice Aprot Nawowuna. The country also provided the junior winners ( Miriam Cherop and Isaac Kipsang) and topped the team podium in all four races. Daisy Jepkemei (born February 13, 1996) is a Kenyan born long distance running athlete. Since January 29, 2022, she represents Kazakhstan. While representing Kenya at age 16, she was the steeplechase champion at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics (for athletes under age 20) as well as the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships. She was also second place in the 3000 metres at those same championships. Mogos Tuemay Abraha (born 24 May 1997) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He competed in the senior men's race at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Aarhus, Denmark. Getaneh Tamire Molla (born 10 January 1994) is an Ethiopian male long-distance runner who competes over distances up to 10K. He was the gold medallist in the 5000 metres at the 2015 African Games. Geteneh's first success at national level came at the 2015 Ethiopian Athletics Championships where he won the 5000 m title. This earned him a spot on the national team for the 2015 African Games, where he became champion. In 2016 he won both the national title at the Jan Meda Cross Country and defended his 5000 m title at the track championships. He was outside the individual medals in international competition that year, taking sixth at the 2016 African Cross Country Championships and fourth at the 2016 African Championships in Athletics.
