2015–16 Ukrainian Hockey Extra League Season
The 2015–16 Ukrainian Hockey Extra League season was the 24th season of the Ukrainian Hockey Championship, and the first since the league was named Ukrainian Hockey Extra League. Eight teams participated in the league this season, but it was long uncertain which teams that would participate because of the instability in Ukraine and that some of the clubs have economic issues. The Ukrainian Hockey Extra League was the name of the highest ice hockey league in Ukraine during the 2015–16 season, playing for the Ukrainian Hockey Championship. Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. HC Donbass
Hockey Club Donbass ( uk, Хокейний Клуб Донбас; russian: link=no, Хоккейный Клуб Донбасс, '' tr. Hokeinyi Klub Donbas'') is a Ukrainian professional ice hockey team based in Druzhkivka, currently playing in the Ukrainian Hockey League. HC Donbass is six times Ukrainian champion (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018). The team was a member of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons, and was the sole representative from Ukraine competing at the elite international level. Due to the War in Donbas, the team did not compete in the 2014–15 KHL season. Borys Kolesnikov, a prominent Ukrainian politician and businessman, purchased the team in 2010, and from then until 2014 it was the most successful hockey club in Ukraine. HC Generals Kyiv ''( uk, XK Дженералз Київ)'' is a Ukrainian ice hockey club from Kyiv. The team participates in the Ukrainian Hockey League. History The club was founded in 2011 and folded in 2017. They were playing in the Ukrainian championship the 2013–14 season, finishing on the fifth place and missing the playoffs. In the 2014–15 season, the team finished on the second place during the regular season. In the playoffs, they were losing in two straight games in the semi-final towards ATEK Kyiv. The Ukrainian Hockey Championship ( ua, Чемпіонат України з Хокею, '' tr: Chempionat Ukrayiny z Khokeyu'') is an annual ice hockey award and national title, bestowed to the ice hockey organization judged to have the best performing team in Ukraine, founded in 1992. Prior to the 2015–16 season, the league playing for the title took the name Ukrainian Hockey Extra League. In 2016, the new Ukrainian Hockey League was created instead. HK Kremenchuk
HC Kremenchuk ( uk, ХК Кременчук) is an ice hockey team based in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, playing in the Ukrainian Hockey Extra League that was formed prior to the 2016–17 season. The club was founded in 2010 and initially competed in Ukrainian amateur championships before joining the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga for 2013–14 season. After finishing the regular 2013–14 season Kremenchuk was forced to withdraw from the league prior to the playoffs due to the political situation in Ukraine. The team then joined the Ukrainian Championship for the 2014–15 season, winning the regular season and finishing as runners-up in the playoffs. HK Vytyaz' Kharkiv ''( ua, Витязь Харків)'' is an ice hockey team based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, playing in the Ukrainian Hockey League. History The club was formed in 2001 and played the 2001–02 season in the second division of the Eastern European Hockey League. After some years of inactivity, the club joined the Ukrainian League prior to the 2014–15 season. The first year in the league, the team ended at fourth and last place in the regular season. However, as all team reached the playoffs, the team played in semifinals where they lost to HK Kremenchuk. Hockey Club Bilyi Bars Bila Tserkva ( uk, ХК Білий Барс Біла Церква; en, White Leopard of Bila Tserkva) is a Ukrainian team based in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine. The club was a founding member of the Professional Hockey League of Ukraine and now playing in the Ukrainian Hockey League. History The Bilyi Bars were founded in 2008. HK Rapid ''( ua, XK Рапид)'' is a former ice hockey team based in Kyiv, Ukraine. History The club was formed in 2015, first by the name Generals Kyiv-2, as the team was planned to act as a farm team for Generals Kyiv.
