2015–16 UConn Huskies Women's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 UConn Huskies women's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Huskies, led by thirty first year head coach Geno Auriemma, won the NCAA tournament and went undefeated. With their eleventh championship win in 2016, the UConn Huskies became the first NCAA Division I women's basketball team to win four straight national championships. Excluding exhibitions, every Connecticut home game and most conference games aired on SportsNet New York, SNY with a simulcast on Husky Vision. Geno Auriemma
Luigi "Geno" Auriemma (born March 23, 1954) is an Italian-born American college basketball coach and, since 1985, the head coach of the University of Connecticut Huskies women's basketball team. , he has led UConn to 17 undefeated conference seasons (including eight consecutive), of which six were undefeated overall seasons, with 11 NCAA Division I national championships, the most in women's college basketball history, and has won eight national Naismith College Coach of the Year awards. Auriemma was the head coach of the United States women's national basketball team from 2009 through 2016, during which time his teams won the 2010 and 2014 World Championships, and gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics, going undefeated in all four tournaments. Basketball At The 2015 Pan American Games
Basketball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 16 to 25 at the Ryerson Athletic Centre. A total of eight men's and women's teams competed in each tournament respectively. Competition schedule The following is the competition schedule for the basketball competitions: Medal table Medalists Qualification A total of eight men's teams and eight women's team will qualify to compete at the games. The top three teams at the South American and Central American and Caribbean Championships will qualify for each respective tournament. The host nation (Canada) along with the United States automatically qualifies teams in both events. Each nation may enter one team in each tournament (12 athletes per team) for a maximum total of 24 athletes. 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship
The 2015 FIBA Americas Championship for Women, held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas at the 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball Tournament in Brazil. The champion qualified directly for the Olympics. On the first day of the tournament, at coincident FIBA Central Board meetings in Tokyo, Brazil's men's and women's teams were granted automatic entry to the Olympic Tournament as highly ranked host teams. After allowing for Brazil's and the tournament winner's direct qualification for the Olympics, the next highest three teams in this tournament went to the final 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball Qualifying Tournament, competing against the highest placed non-winners of the other regional Championships. Kim Smith Gaucher (born May 7, 1984), née Kim Smith, is a Canadian professional women's basketball player, currently with the USO Mondeville in the championnat de France de basket-ball de Ligue féminine 2 (LF2). University of Utah She grew up in Mission, British Columbia, and attended Heritage Park Secondary school before attending the University of Utah and playing for its women's basketball team. Nirra Fields (born December 3, 1993) is a Canadian professional basketball player for İzmit Belediyespor. She has also played for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Fields represents the Canadian national team internationally, where she participated at the 2014 FIBA World Championship. High school Fields started high school at Lakeside Academy in Montreal in 2007, followed by Lower Canada College for a year. The following year she spent at Regina High School in South Euclid, Ohio. Miah-Marie Langlois (born September 21, 1991) is a retired Canadian professional basketball player who played for WBC Dynamo Novosibirsk and the Canadian national team, with whom she participated at the 2014 FIBA World Championship. and the 2016 Rio Olympics. Miranda Joy Ayim (born May 6, 1988) is a Canadian basketball player for Basket Landes in France. Ayim is a captain of the Canada women's national team and competed for Canada in three Olympics between 2012 and 2021. High school Ayim attended high school at Saunders Secondary School in London, Ontario. She was a starter for the varsity each of her four years. She was on the honor roll all four years and graduated as the valedictorian of her class. Pepperdine Ayim played for the Pepperdine women's basketball team for the four years of her attendance. Moriah Jefferson (born March 8, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted second overall by the San Antonio Stars in the 2016 WNBA draft. Jefferson played point guard for UConn women's basketball team, where she won four consecutive national championships.
