2015–16 Snooker Season
The 2015–16 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 7 May 2015 and 2 May 2016. The World Grand Prix became a ranking event featuring the top 32 players on a one-year money list, having been a non-ranking event the previous season. New professional players Countries: * * * * * * * * * * * The top 64 players from the prize money rankings after the 2015 World Championship, and the 30 players earning a two-year card the previous year automatically qualified for the season. The top eight players from the European Tour Order of Merit and top four players from the Asian Tour Order of Merit, who had not already qualified for the Main Tour, also qualified. Another two players came from the EBSA Qualifying Tour Play-Offs, and a further eight places were available through the Q School. World Snooker Tour
The World Snooker Tour (WST) is the main professional snooker tour, consisting of approximately 128 players competing on a circuit of up to 28 tournaments each season. The World Snooker Tour is administered by World Snooker Ltd, the commercial arm of professional snooker, which introduced the World Snooker Tour name, logo, and revised website as part of a 2020 rebranding. The principal stakeholder in World Snooker Ltd is Matchroom Sport, which owns 51 percent of the company; the sport's governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), owns 26 percent. To compete on the World Snooker Tour, players must be WPBSA members. The 2015 EBSA European Snooker Championships was an amateur snooker tournament that took place from 2 June to 13 June 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic It was the 24th edition of the EBSA European Snooker Championships and also doubles as a qualification event for the World Snooker Tour. Chris Wakelin
Chris Wakelin (born 16 March 1992) is an English professional snooker player from Rugby, Warwickshire. He practices in Bar 8 in Rugby. Career Early career Wakelin started playing snooker aged 8, when his parents Mark and Angie bought him his first mini snooker table, and by the time he was 11 he was successfully playing in the local league. However, his career nearly came to a halt at the age of 17 when he had to start working full-time as an ASDA delivery driver to support himself financially, and only played snooker as a hobby. Vinnie Calabrese
Vincent "Vinnie" Calabrese (born 7 October 1987) is a former Australian professional snooker player from Campbelltown, New South Wales. He was based in Cambridge together with his compatriot Neil Robertson, although he has since moved back to Australia. Early career Calabrese started playing snooker aged 7 and soon came to success, winning a number of local tournaments. At the age of just 16 he had already claimed the Australian Snooker Championship. Since 2006 he has been spending a lot of time in England, playing in the PIOS tournaments and practising with Neil Robertson. Hatem Yassen ( ''Ḥātam Yāsīn''; born 21 August 1986) is a former Egyptian professional snooker player. Yassen turned professional in 2015 winning the African Championship. ABSF African Snooker Championships
The ABSC African Snooker Championship is an annual snooker competition and is the highest ranking and most prestigious amateur event in Africa. The event series is sanctioned by the African Billiards & Snooker Confederation. Having been established back in 1993, the winner of the event often becomes the African nomination for the World Snooker Tour. Throughout the tournament’s early history the championship was dominated by South African people, South African players, however at the turn of the millennium Egyptians, Egyptian players became the dominant force in the championship, winning 11 of 15 championships since the year 2000. The championship is currently held by Mohamed Ibrahim (snooker player), Mohamed Ibrahim who defeated Hesham Shawky 5–4 in the final of the 2022 All-Africa Snooker & 6-Red Championship. Itaro Santos
Itaro Santos (born 28 July 1985) is a German-born Brazilian former professional snooker player. Itaro is based at the Legends Snooker Academy in Leytonstone, England, United Kingdom. Career Since 2004 Santos has also competed for Germany, as his native Brazil was not then a member of the IBSF. He is a two-time German Amateur Championship and together with Lasse Münstermann and Sascha Lippe competed as part of Team Germany at the European Team Snooker Championship of 2007. Through a wildcard Santos has also competed in the finals of the World Series of Snooker 2008/09. However he only managed to finish third in his group and failed to qualify for the next round. Hamza Akbar (Urdu:حمزه اكبر ; born 12 November 1993) is a Pakistani professional snooker player who won the 31st Asian Snooker Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2015.
