2015–16 NBL Canada Season
The 2015–16 NBL Canada season was the fifth season of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). The regular season began on December 26, 2015 and concluded on April 30, 2016. There were 40 total games played by each team, eight more than the previous year. The new expansion Niagara River Lions team are competing in their first season. The Halifax Hurricanes also began play, replacing the defunct Halifax Rainmen. During the offseason, the Mississauga Power folded to make way for Raptors 905 of the NBA Development League. Prior to the season, the league also enforced new policies to help improve its standard, including rules regarding sportsmanship, addressing the brawl that ended the 2015 NBL Canada Finals. National Basketball League Of Canada
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada; french: Ligue nationale de basketball du Canada) is a Canadian professional men's minor league basketball organization. The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three existing Premier Basketball League teams joined with four new franchises for the league's inaugural season. The league has changed in size multiple times and has four active teams for the 2023 season, all in Ontario, but historically has had several located in the Atlantic provinces. Saint John Mill Rats
The Saint John Riptide were a Canadian professional basketball team based in Saint John, New Brunswick, that had home games at Harbour Station. They were a member of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) in the Atlantic Division (NBL Canada), Atlantic Division. The team was one of two professional basketball teams from the province of New Brunswick, the other being the Moncton Magic. Tony Jones (basketball)
Tony Jones is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies men's basketball program. He had most recently served as interim head coach for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Playing career Jones attended Southwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan. He earned All-City honors as a basketball player and became known as the team's star. He attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he garnered All-Conference accolades. Jones later attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Coaching career Jones began coaching basketball in 1986, when he returned to his alma mater to direct the Detroit Southwestern basketball program. Clarence William Jones (born March 18, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player. His professional career spanned from 1989 to 2001, and included stops in the National Basketball Association, Continental Basketball Association, France, Italy, and Venezuela. College career Jones played college basketball at the University of Iowa, from 1984–85 to 1987–88. He scored 981 career points, and helped lead the Hawkeyes to four consecutive berths into the NCAA Tournament. He appeared in 125 games, and averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Windsor Express
The Windsor Express is a Canadian professional basketball team based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Express are an expansion team of the National Basketball League of Canada that began play in the 2012–13 season. The Express play its home games at the WFCU Centre. History On June 28, 2012, the NBL announced that Windsor had been awarded an expansion team for the 2012–13 season. As the eighth franchise, the league created divisions and placed the Express in the Central Division. On August 1, 2012 the team nickname was officially confirmed. Rob Spon
Robert Spon is an American professional basketball coach, most recently serving as the head coach for the Cape Breton Highlanders of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada). He has previously led the Rochester RazorSharks, the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats/Riptide, and several other minor league teams in the past. Spon also has experience coaching the Dakota Wizards, Indiana Alleycats, and Pittsburgh Xplosion in the Continental Basketball Association. Julian King (basketball)
Julian King is an American retired professional basketball player who most recently was the head coach for the Saint John Mill Rats of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He played at the collegiate level with Temple and Coppin State after graduating Dodge County High School. As a pro player, King has experience competing in various minor leagues across the United States, multiple NBA camps, and in countries such as Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Paraguay, and Argentina. David John Magley (born November 24, 1959) is a retired American basketball player and coach. He is currently the president of The Basketball League after serving as commissioner of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). Prior to becoming an NBLC executive, Magley was head coach of Bradenton Christian School in Bradenton, Florida, for 11 years and then led the Brampton A's for two seasons. He played basketball at South Bend LaSalle High School. Ken Murray is a Canadian professional and college basketball coach. Career Murray played college basketball at Brock University from 1972 to 1977. He was the Brock Badgers' Most Valuable Player in each season and was presented with Conference All-Star accolades four times (1973–1976).
