2015 Southland Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2015 Southland Conference women's basketball tournament, a part of the 2014–15 NCAA Division I women's basketball season, took place March 11–14, 2015 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The winner of the tournament received the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA tournament. Seeds & Regular Season Standings Only the Top 8 teams advanced to the Southland Conference tournament. If a team ineligible for the NCAA Tourney finished in the top 8, their seed would fall to the next eligible team. Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word were ineligible for post-season play as they were in the second year of a 4-year transition from D2 to D1. They were not eligible for the Southland tourney until 2018. Merrell Center
The Leonard E. Merrell Center (commonly known as the Merrell Center) is a 7,200-seat multi-purpose arena in Katy, Texas. It was built in 2005 and was the former home of the Katy Copperheads (National Indoor Football League) and the Katy Ruff Riders of the Intense Football League. The Merrell Center has hosted the Southland Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments from 2008 to 2022, but both tournaments will move to The Legacy Center on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 2023. The Houston Stallions of the Lone Star Football League moved to the Merrell Center in 2011. As a concert venue the arena seats 1,500 for theater shows and up to 7,200 for arena concerts. Capacity for athletic events is 5,794. The arena can seat up to 1,200 for banquets. 2014–15 Northwestern State Lady Demons Basketball Team
The 2014–15 Northwestern State Lady Demons basketball team represented Northwestern State University during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Demons, led by third year co-head coaches Brooke Stoehr and Scott Stoehr, played their home games at Prather Coliseum and were members of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 19–15, 10–8 in Southland play for a tie for a sixth-place finish. They were champions of the Southland Women's Basketball Tournament and received an automatic to the 2015 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. They lost to Baylor in the first round. The 2015 Southland Conference men's basketball tournament, a part of the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, took place March 11–14 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The winner of the tournament received the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA tournament. Two programs in their second year of the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I, Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word, were ineligible for the tournament. Three programs were ineligible for the tournament for failure to meet enhanced NCAA Academic Performance Rating (APR) requirements. Those teams were Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, and Lamar. The three teams are part of a group of nine NCAA teams ineligible for 2015 post season basketball play. With the departure of Oral Roberts to the Summit League, only eight conference teams remain eligible for the tournament. Katy is a city in the U.S. state of Texas within the Greater Katy area, itself forming the western part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area.
