2015 Netherlands Women's Sevens
The 2015 Netherlands Women's Sevens was the third edition of the Netherlands Women's Sevens as part of the Women's World Series. It was held over the weekend of 22–23 May 2015 at NRCA Stadium, Amsterdam, as the sixth and final event of the 2014–15 series. Format The teams are drawn into three pools of four teams each. Each team plays every other team in their pool once. The top two teams from each pool advance to the Cup/Plate brackets along with the top two third place teams. The rest of the teams go to the Bowl bracket. 2014–15 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The 2014–15 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the third edition of the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series (formerly the IRB Women's Sevens World Series), an annual series of tournaments organised by World Rugby for women's national teams in rugby sevens. The series also doubled as an Olympic qualifier for the first time ever. For the second time in the series' history, the number of events increased. The first series in 2012–13 featured four events. The 2013–14 series was initially announced with six events, but only five were actually scheduled and played. This season's series included six events. As in previous seasons, the number of teams in each of the events was set at 12; however, the number of core teams that participate in all series events increased to 11. Also for the first time, the women's series held a core team qualifying tournament at Hong Kong, similar to that held in the men's HSBC Sevens World Series. It took place on 16 and 17 May 2014 at NRCA Stadium, Amsterdam. Format The teams were drawn into three pools of four teams each. Each team played everyone in their pool one time. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the Cup/Plate brackets while the top 2 third place teams will also compete in the Cup/Plate. Netherlands Women's Sevens
The Amsterdam Women's Sevens began in 2005. On 4 October 2012, the IRB announced the launch of the IRB Women's Sevens World Series, the women's counterpart to the wildly successful IRB Sevens World Series for men. The inaugural 2012–13 season featured four events, with the Amsterdam Sevens as the final event in May 2013. The 2014–15 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the last series to feature Amsterdam as an event. Rugby Union Sevens - a short form of the sport of rugby union - was first played in 1883, with the first (men's) internationals taking place in 1973. As women's rugby union developed in the 1960s and 1970s the format became very popular as it allowed games, and entire leagues, to be developed in countries even when player numbers were small, and it remains the main form the women's game is played in most parts of the world. World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, is a series of international rugby sevens tournaments for women's national teams run by World Rugby. The inaugural series was held in 2012–13 as the successor to the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup held the previous season. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2015. The series, the women's counterpart to the World Rugby Sevens Series, provides elite-level women's competition between rugby nations. As with the men's Sevens World Series, teams compete for the title by accumulating points based on their finishing position in each tournament. NRCA Stadium
The National Rugby Centre Amsterdam, also known as NRCA Stadium, is a rugby stadium in Amsterdam. The complex is situated within the Sportpark de Eendracht in the district of Geuzenveld-Slotermeer. All international matches of the Netherlands national team are played at the NCRA, and the offices of the Netherlands Rugby Board (NRB) are at the complex. Plans for the National Rugby Centre Amsterdam (NRCA) were formed by the NRB in the eighties and nineties as the increasing interest in rugby grew so strong that the old offices in Bussum became impracticable. Candidates for a new national rugby center had included The Hague, Amersfoort and Amsterdam. After much deliberation and some lobbying, the location at Sportpark De Eendracht was finally selected.
