2015 Louisiana Attorney General Election
The 2015 Louisiana Attorney General election took place on October 24, 2015 to elect the List of attorneys general of Louisiana, Attorney General of the U.S. state of Louisiana, with a Two-round system, runoff election, held on November 21, 2015. Incumbent Buddy Caldwell, a former Democratic Party (United States), Democrat who joined the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party in February 2011, sought re-election to a third term in office, but was defeated by fellow Republican Jeff Landry. Under Louisiana's Nonpartisan blanket primary#Louisiana open primary, jungle primary system, all candidates will appear on the same ballot, regardless of party affiliation; voters may vote for any candidate, regardless of their own party affiliation. A general election was held in the U.S. state of Louisiana on October 24, 2015. All of Louisiana's executive officers, and both houses of the Louisiana State Legislature were up for election. Under Louisiana's jungle primary system, all candidates appeared on the same ballot, regardless of party and voters voted for any candidate, regardless of their party affiliation. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote during the primary election, a runoff election was held on November 21, 2015 between the top two candidates in the primary. Louisiana is the only state that has a jungle primary system (California and Washington have a similar "top two primary" system). Governor Incumbent Republican Governor Bobby Jindal was term-limited and unable to run for re-election to a third term in office. Alexandria is the ninth-largest city in the state of Louisiana and is the parish seat of Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies on the south bank of the Red River in almost the exact geographic center of the state. Jacques Maurice Roy (born September 25, 1970) was the twenty-third mayor of Alexandria, the parish seat of Rapides Parish in Central Louisiana. He is a Democrat. Early life Roy is the son of Christopher Roy Sr., an ad hoc judge of the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal. He is the brother of Christopher Roy Jr., a former one-term member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and a 2014 candidate for district attorney of the 9th Judicial District Court, based in Alexandria. Richard Joseph Gallot, Jr., known as Rick Gallot (born April 1966), is the current president of Grambling State University and was a Democratic member of the Louisiana State Senate for District 29 In the nonpartisan blanket primary held on October 22, 2011, Gallot received 12,992 votes (50.3 percent). Gallot, an African American born in Ruston, graduated from the historically black Grambling State University in Grambling and the Southern University Law Center of Baton Rouge. John Kennedy (Louisiana Politician)
John Neely Kennedy (born November 21, 1951) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the junior United States senator from Louisiana since 2017. He served as the Louisiana State Treasurer from 2000 to 2017. Kennedy has been a member of the Republican Party since 2007; he was a Democrat from 1988 to 2007. Born in Centreville, Mississippi, Kennedy graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia School of Law before attending Magdalen College, Oxford.
