2015 Jacksonville Mayoral Election
The 2015 Jacksonville mayoral election took place on March 24, 2015, to elect the List of mayors of Jacksonville, Florida, Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. The election is a blanket primary, with all candidates from all parties running together on the same ballot. As no candidate received a majority of the vote, a runoff was held between the top two vote-getters on May 19, 2015. Incumbent Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Mayor Alvin Brown ran for re-election to a second term in office. Duval County, Florida
Duval County is in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 995,567, up from 864,263 in 2010. Its county seat is Jacksonville, Florida, with which the Duval County government has been consolidated since 1968. Duval County was established in 1822, and is named for William Pope Duval, Governor of Florida Territory from 1822 to 1834. Duval County is the central county of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clarence William Nelson II (born September 29, 1942) is an American politician and attorney serving as the administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Nelson previously served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2001 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1972 to 1978 and in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1991. In January 1986, Nelson became the second sitting member of U.S. Congress to fly in space, after Senator Jake Garn, when he served as a payload specialist on mission STS-61-C aboard the Space Shuttle ''Columbia''. The Jacksonville mayoral election of 2011 determined the Mayor of Jacksonville, Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. A blanket primary with six candidates together on the same ballot took place March 22, 2011. As no candidate received a majority of the vote, a runoff election between the top two vote-getters, Republican Party (United States), Republican Mike Hogan (Florida politician), Mike Hogan and Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Alvin Brown, took place on May 17, 2011. In a close race, Brown defeated Hogan to become Jacksonville's first African-American mayor. The runoff saw Brown win the narrowest election in Jacksonville mayoral history. Atlantic Beach, Florida
Atlantic Beach is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States and part of the Jacksonville Beaches communities. When the majority of communities in Duval County consolidated with Jacksonville in 1968, Atlantic Beach, along with Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Baldwin, remained quasi-independent. Like the other towns, it maintains its own municipal government, but its residents vote in the Jacksonville mayoral election and have representation on the Jacksonville city council. Leonard Boyd Curry (born July 19, 1970) is an American politician, accountant, and businessman serving as the 8th mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. He assumed office on July 1, 2015, after defeating incumbent Alvin Brown in the city's 2015 mayoral election. He was re-elected in 2019.
