Music Of Finland
The music of Finland can be roughly divided into categories of folk music, classical and contemporary art music, and contemporary popular music. The folk music of Finland belongs to a broader musical tradition, that has been common amongst Balto-Finnic people, sung in the so-called ''Kalevala'' metre. Though folk songs of the old variety became progressively rarer in western Finland, they remained common in eastern parts of the country, mainly Karelia. After publication of Kalevala, this type of singing started to gain more popularity again. In the west of the country, more mainstream Nordic folk music traditions prevail. The Sami people of northern Finland have their own musical traditions, collectively Sami music. Finnish folk music has undergone a roots revival in the recent decades, and has also become a part of popular music. Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2015
Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Aina mun pitää" written and performed by the band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final ''Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2015'' in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. 18 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of three semi-finals and a final, taking place in February 2015. Six entries competed in each semi-final and the top three from each semi-final, as selected solely by a public vote, advanced to the final. Nine entries competed in the final on 28 February where the combination of votes from eight jury groups representing different factions of Finnish society and votes from the public selected "Aina mun pitää" performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät as the winner. Tampere Music Festivals
The Tampere Music Festivals organises three music events in the city of Tampere, Finland. Tampere Jazz Happening The Tampere Jazz Happenitakes place every November, bringing together friends of modern jazz. It was first held in 1982. The uncompromising programme consists of improvised music, world music and rock-influenced jazz. In addition to the jazz music, different workshops and art exhibitions take place during the event. Jouni Kaipainen
Jouni Ilari Kaipainen (24 November 1956 – 23 November 2015) was a Finnish composer. Kaipainen was born in Helsinki to the physician and politician Osmo Kaipainen, and his wife, the author Anu Kaipainen, Anu Mustonen. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under Aulis Sallinen and Paavo Heininen. He died on November 23, 2015, on the eve of his 59th birthday.
