2015 IBSA European Judo Championships
The 2015 IBSA Judo European Championships were held in Odivelas, Portugal, from 25–30 November 2015. It was held at the Multiusos Sports Hall in the city. The championship was the 13th to be held and was the last event whereby European athletes could collect points for qualification to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio. Each country could send a maximum of two competitors per eight division. The competition is open to all classification of visually impaired athlete (B1 (classification), B1, B2 (classification), B2 and B3 (classification), B3), who compete against each other. Russia finished on top of the Championship table by total number of medals won (17), and class of medals won. Odivelas ( or ) is a city and a municipality in Lisbon metropolitan area, Portugal, in the Lisbon District and the historical and cultural Estremadura Province. Ramil Gasimov ( az, Ramil Qasımov, born 13 August 1981) is an Azerbaijani paralympic judoka, acting in a weight up to 73 kilograms and category B2 blindness, world champion in 2014 and two-time European champion in 2013 and 2015. Sam Ingram (born 21 August 1985) is a British Paralympic Judo competitor who represented the United Kingdom at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing and at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Personal history Ingram was born in 1985. Originally from Coventry, Ingram and his brother, Joe, were both born with the genetic eye condition corneal dystrophy, meaning they cannot see in colour and have no central vision. He attended the Alderman Callow school in Coventry before moving to Exhall Grange, a specialist school for visually impaired students. Ingram; the purple house at the school is named after him. Cyril Jonard (born 23 February 1976) is a French judoka. He competes in judo events for the visually impaired and blind. Jonard has Usher syndrome; he is both deaf and visually impaired. He competes against non-deaf judoka. Jonard took part in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. He won gold in the men's half-middleweight category (-81 kg) when he defeated Japan's Yuji Kato by ippon within just a few seconds in the final. He was subsequently awarded a knighthood in the Légion d'honneur, the highest decoration in France, by French President Jacques Chirac.
