2015 General Cup
The 2015 General Cup was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament that took place between 16 and 21 November 2015 at the General Snooker Club in Hong Kong. Ali Carter was the defending champion but he withdrew from the tournament. Kyren Wilson withdrew as well and they were replaced by Michael Holt and Mark Davis. Zhang Anda won the General Cup Qualifying Event. Anda beat Cao Yupeng 5–4 in the final. This was an invitational event with the winner receiving the final place in the General Cup. Marco Fu beat Mark Williams 7–3 in the final, making 3 centuries while doing so. General Cup
The General Cup was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament which was held sporadically from 2004 until 2015 at the General Snooker Club in Hong Kong. History Established in 2004 under the "General Cup International" name, the tournament was contested only intermittently, with the last event held in 2015. The field comprised mostly professional players and several top Far Eastern amateurs, except in 2013 only professionals were invited. In 2014, there were eight professionals and a wildcard player. In the early rounds, the field of competition is divided into groups with the players in each group playing each other in a round-robin format, followed by knock-out stages. Ali Carter
Allister Carter (born 25 July 1979) is an English professional snooker player. He has twice been the World Championship runner-up, in 2008 and 2012, losing both finals to Ronnie O'Sullivan. He has won four ranking titles and briefly reached number two in the world rankings in 2010. His nickname, "The Captain", comes from his hobby of piloting aeroplanes. Career Carter turned professional in 1996. Joe Perry (snooker Player)
Joe Perry (born 13 August 1974) is an English professional snooker player from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Often referred to as "the Fen Potter" and also nicknamed "the Gentleman", Perry climbed the rankings steadily after turning professional in 1992 and reached the Top 16 for the first time in 2002. His first ranking final came at the 2001 European Open and he had to wait another 13 years for a second which came at the 2014 Wuxi Classic. Michael White (snooker Player)
Michael White (born 5 July 1991) is a Welsh professional snooker player from Neath, Glamorgan. Nicknamed ‘Lightning’ due to his fast playing style, White is a former top 16 player and two-time ranking event winner. A highly rated junior, he became the youngest player to have made a century break in competitive play aged 9, and won the World Amateur Championship at 14. White won his first ranking event at the 2015 Indian Open, before breaking into the top 16 during the 2015-16 season and capturing his second ranking title at the 2017 Paul Hunter Classic. Cao Yupeng
Cao Yupeng (; born 27 October 1990) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He won the 2011 Asian Under-21 Championship, thus qualifying for the professional main tour for the 2011–12 season. In his first season on the circuit, he reached the last 16 of the World Championship. He served a ban for match-fixing from 25 May 2018 until 24 November 2020. He received the ban on 1 December 2018, after pleading guilty to manipulating the outcome of matches. Zhang Anda
Zhang Anda (born 25 December 1991) is a Chinese professional snooker player, who made his debut on the Main Tour for the 2009–10 season. He qualified by winning the ACBS Asian Under-21 Championship. Standing at 5 ft. 3 in. tall, he is nicknamed "Mighty Mouse". Zhang lives in Sheffield, England, during the snooker season and practises at the Victoria Snooker Academy. Mark Davis (snooker Player)
Mark Davis (born 12 August 1972) is an English professional snooker player from St Leonards in Sussex. He became professional in 1991, and for many years was considered something of a journeyman; however, he vastly improved his game in the late 2000s, and as a result in 2012 made his debut in the top 16. The highlights of his career so far have been winning the Benson & Hedges Championship in 2002 (earning him an appearance at the Masters), and the six-red snooker world championships three times (in 2009, 2012 and 2013). Michael Holt (snooker Player)
Michael Holt (born 7 August 1978) is an English former professional snooker player from Nottingham. A former world Top 20 player, he has won one ranking event – the 2020 Snooker Shoot Out – and two minor-ranking tournaments. He has been runner-up at two ranking events – the 2016 Riga Masters and the 2019 Snooker Shoot Out. Kyren Wilson
Kyren Wilson (; born 23 December 1991) is an English professional snooker player from Kettering and a five-time ranking event winner. He has been a runner-up at two of the three Triple Crown events, having reached the final at both the 2018 Masters and the 2020 World Snooker Championship. Wilson reached his highest world ranking of fourth in 2020. A prolific breakbuilder, Wilson has made over 350 century breaks and a maximum break on three occasions. The 2014 General Cup was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament that took place between 12 and 18 October 2014 at the General Snooker Club in Hong Kong. Barry Hawkins was to take part in the tournament, but he was replaced by Liang Wenbo due to a neck injury. The General Cup marked the return of Ali Carter, who was playing in his first event since his chemotherapy treatment, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs in May. Carter intended to take part in the Bulgarian Open, but he was forced to withdraw. Mark Davis was the defending champion, but he lost 2–6 against Ali Carter in the semi-final.
