2015 Faroe Islands Cup
The 2015 Faroe Islands Cup was the 61st edition of Faroe Islands domestic football cup. It started on 28 March and ended with the final on 29 August 2015. Víkingur Gøta, Víkingur were the defending champions, having won their fourth cup title the 2014 Faroe Islands Cup, previous year, and successfully defended their title, qualifying for the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League#First qualifying round, first qualifying round of the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League. Only the first teams of Faroese football clubs were allowed to participate. The preliminary round involved clubs from 2. deild, 3. deild and one from 1. deild. The remaining teams from 1. deild and all of the 2015 Faroe Islands Premier League, Effodeildin entered the competition in the first round. Víkingur Gøta
Víkingur is a semi-professional football club in the Faroe Islands. The club was founded in 2008 after the merger of GÍ Gøta and Leirvík ÍF. The club is based in Leirvík, while the stadium is in Norðragøta. Both villages are part of the same municipality Eysturkommuna, located on the island of Eysturoy and about 5 kilometers away from each other. The club won the Faroese championship for the first time in the 2016 season. In the 2017 season, Vikingur won the championship again. History Víkingur was founded on 14 January 2008 with the merger of first division GÍ Gøta and second division club Leirvík ÍF. Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag
Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag is a Faroese football club from Tvøroyri, currently playing in the Betrideildin, the top tier of Faroese football. TB Tvøroyri is the oldest football club in the Faroe Islands, and also one of the oldest in the Danish Realm, in which the Faroe Islands are a self-governing country. After the end of the 2016 season, it was decided on 15 December 2016 that the three clubs of the island Suðuroy, which are TB Tvøroyri, FC Suðuroy and Royn Hvalba would merge into a new club for the 2017 season. The merger will not be complete until 2018 and the name will be all three names together for the 2017 season: TB/FC Suðuroy/Royn. The three clubs have not been dissolved yet, they continue separately for the children's and women's teams. In 2017 it will only be the men's teams which will play for the new cooperation. Súni Olsen
Súni Olsen (born 7 March 1981) is a Faroese former professional football midfielder. Club career He started his career at Faroese club GÍ Gøta, after a successful season in 2000, in which he scored 13 league goals, moved to Dutch side FC Zwolle in 2001, becoming the second Faroese international to play in the Netherlands after Jan Allan Müller played for Go Ahead Eagles in 1990/1991. He returned to GÍ in 2002, and after a prolific number of goals for a midfielder, he attracted the attention of Danish team AaB, where he was later joined by Faroese teammate Jón Rói Jacobsen. In 2008, he was allowed to leave to Viborg on a free transfer, after failing to break into the first-team squad at Aalborg. Western European Summer Time (WEST, UTC+01:00) is a summer daylight saving time scheme, 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and Coordinated Universal Time. Faroe Islands Premier League
The Faroe Islands Premier League (also known as ''Betri deildin menn'' for sponsorship reasons) is the top level of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 as Meistaradeildin, and it is played in current format since 2005, when Premier League replaced 1. deild as the country's top football division. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It is contested by 10 clubs. At the end of every season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from 1. deild. Tórshavn
Tórshavn (; lit. "Thor's harbour"), usually locally referred to as simply ''Havn'', is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 13,957 (2022), and the greater urban area has a population of 21,078, including the suburbs of Hoyvik and Argir. Tórsvøllur
Tórsvøllur is a football stadium on the sport site of Gundadalur in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. The stadium holds 5,000 people, and was built in 1999 to become the country's national stadium to provide an artificial grass surface on which international football matches could be played. Previously, the Faroe Islands national team played its home matches in the town of Toftir at Svangaskarð stadium. In August 2011, floodlights were introduced; these were first officially used for the football match between Faroe Islands and Italy on 2 September 2011. Undrið FF
Undrið FF is a Faroese football team from the Faroese capital Tórshavn. The team also plays at the Hoyvíkvøllur. The club was founded 18 January 2006, under the name ''Undrið FF''. This makes the team one of the youngest member of the Faroe Islands Football Association. History The idea to found the new football team began with a birthday party in 2005. In the 2021 season, the team cruise-controlled through the season, gaining promotion to the 1. Deild for the first time in the club's history. This was the first season that chairman, Arnar Lognberg, was in charge of the team for a full calendar year. FC Hoyvík (2019)
FC Hoyvík is a Faroese soccer, football club founded in 2012 after the merger of FF Giza and the original FC Hoyvík. Initially it was known as Giza Hoyvík but was renamed to FC Hoyvík after 2018 season and since 2019 was known as FC Hoyvík. The club is based in Hoyvík, and play their home matches in Hoyvíksvøllur. History In their first season, they played in 2. deild and finished 3rd losing the promotion on goal difference. In 2013 and 2014 they finished 3rd again, finally achieving promotion to the second tier in 2015. They spent three seasons in 1. deild, being relegated back to 2. deild in 2018. After the end of the 2018 season, the club announced it would be renamed to FC Hoyvík. Skála Ítróttarfelag (Skála ÍF) is a Faroese football club based in Skáli, municipality of Runavík. The club was founded on 15 May 1965. They currently play in the Betrideildin, which is the top football league of the Faroe Islands. They were promoted to the top league after winning the 2015 season of 1, deild with 70 points. They were also promoted to the top tier after the 2013 season, but were relegated after one year in the Effodeildin. Miðvágs Bóltfelag
Miðvágs Bóltfelag, commonly known as MB, is a Faroese football club based in Miðvágur. History The club was established in 1905. In 1993, the club merged with SÍF Sandavágur to form FS Vágar. After the merger collapsed in 2004, MB was moved to the fourth division to start over. In their first year as a senior club in over a decade, MB demolished all opposition in the fourth division, ending the year with a 7–2 thumping of HB's fourth division team, mainly consisting of veterans who at an earlier stage of their career had played for HB's first team. Notable figures in Faroese football, such as Gunnar Mohr and Kaj Leo Johannesen played on this team.
