The 2015 FIL World Luge Championships took place under the auspices of the International Luge Federation at the Sigulda bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Sigulda, Latvia from 14–15 February 2015. The FIL World Luge Championships, part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) have taken place on an almost annual basis in non-Winter Olympics years since 1955. Georg Fischler
Georg Fischler (born 3 July 1985 in Hall in Tirol) is an Austrian former luger who competed between 2003 and 2018. He and doubles partner Peter Penz took two medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongchang: a silver in the doubles competition and a bronze in the team relay. They were also gold medallists in the doubles at the 2012 European Luge Championships in Paramonovo. In addition the pair took six medals at the FIL World Luge Championships: four in the doubles and two in mixed team competitions. He won two medals in the mixed team event at the FIL World Luge Championships with a silver in 2009 and a bronze in 2007. He also finished fifth in the men's doubles event at the 2008 championships in Oberhof, Germany. Fischler also finished sixth in the men's doubles event at the 2008 FIL European Luge Championships in Cesana, Italy. In August 2018 Penz and Fischler announced their retirement from competition. Samuel Edney
Samuel "Sam" Edney (born June 29, 1984) is a retired Canadian luger who has competed since 2000. Competing in four Winter Olympics. Career Early start and Olympic debut Edney got into the sport at the age of 14 and began competing at the 2000 Canadian Junior Championship in Calgary. In 2004, Edney would return to Calgary to win second place in doubles at the Junior World Cup Champs. In 2006, he made his Olympic debut in Turin, finishing nineteenth overall. At the Vancouver Winter Olympics, Edney placed seventh. In 2012, Edney was part of the Canadian team that won Bronze at the World Championships. Alex Gough (luger)
Alex Gough (born May 12, 1987) is a retired Canadian luger who competed between 2002 and 2018. Gough is a two-time Olympic luge medalist winning bronze in women's and silver in the team relay at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She was the first Canadian to win a luge medal at the Olympics. Gough won a bronze medal in the women's singles event at the FIL World Luge Championships 2011 in Cesana, the first ever for a Canadian woman and only the second overall (Miroslav Zajonc was the first with his gold in the men's singles event in 1983). Gough has won a total of six World Championship medals, two bronze in women's singles (2011 and 2013) and a silver and three bronze in the mixed team relay events. He won seven medals at the FIL World Luge Championships with two silvers (Men's doubles: 2011, Mixed team: 2007) and five bronzes (Men's doubles: 2015, 2016, Doubles sprint: 2016, Mixed team: 2004, 2005).
