Montreux
Montreux (, , ; frp, Montrolx) is a Swiss municipality and town on the shoreline of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. Ronan Gustin (born 17 August 1987) is a French épée fencer, team European and World champion in 2011. Career Gustin took up fencing at the early age of three at ASPTT Dijon. His junior results were unremarkable, but his build and motivation had him noticed by national coach Jérôme Roussat, who invited him to train with the French national team at INSEP, first as a guest in 2008, then as a full member in 2010, after he was silver medallist in the 2009 French national championship. In his first senior season he earned a bronze medal at the 2011 Heidenheim World Cup and a silver medal at the 2015 Vancouver World Cup. These results caused him to be selected for the 2011 European Championships in Sheffield. Peter Joppich (born 21 December 1982) is a German foil fencer. Biography Joppich is a five-time World Champion in Foil with four Individual titles and one Team title. He won the gold medal in 2010 World Fencing Championships after beating Lei Sheng 15–11 at Championnats du Monde, Paris. He was also the winner of the World Fencing Championships in St Petersburg in 2007 after beating Andrea Baldini 15–9, Turin in 2006 after beating Baldini 15–14, and Havana in 2003. He won his first World Championship Individual Title when he was just 21 years old. Sebastian Bachmann (born November 24, 1986) is a German foil fencer, silver medallist at the 2011 World Championships and bronze medallist at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Career Bachmann took up fencing at the age of five in the craze that followed Germany's fencing medals in at the 1988 Summer Olympics, especially as his hometown Lauda-Königshofen was not far from Tauberbischofsheim, Germany's foil stronghold. He first practiced both foil and épée, before specializing into foil as a teenager. Bachmann won the junior national championship in 2005 and 2006 and was part of the team that earned a silver medal in the 2006 Junior World Championships in Linz. Dmitry Vasilyevich Rigin (russian: Дмитрий Васильевич Ригин; born 10 April 1985) is a Russian foil fencer, team bronze medal in the 2011 and 2014 European Fencing Championships. Career He was called into the national team for the European Championships in Sheffield. Russia saw off Israel, but were stopped by France in the semifinal. They overcame Germany in the match for the bronze medal, bringing Rigin his first European distinction. At Catania 2011, his first World Championships, he was defeated in the second round by USA's Gerek Meinhardt. Aleksey Borisovich Cheremisinov (russian: Алексей Борисович Черемисинов; born 9 July 1985) is a Russian right-handed foil fencer, two-time team European champion, two-time individual European champion, 2014 individual world champion, two-time Olympian, and 2016 team Olympic champion. Career Cheremisinov took up fencing when he was seven, because there was a fencing hall close to home. His first coach was Lev Koreshkov. Cheremisinov joined the Russia national team in 2007. Artur Kamilevich Akhmatkhuzin (russian: Артур Камилевич Ахматхузин; born 21 May 1988) is a Russian foil fencer, silver medallist at the 2013 World Fencing Championships. Julien Mertine (born 26 June 1988) is a French right-handed foil fencer, four-time team European champion, 2014 team world champion, and 2021 team Olympic champion. Career Mertine took up fencing at the age of five with his father, a fencing master who trained amongst others World champion Victor Sintès. When he was eighteen he joined the centre for promising young fencers at Châtenay-Malabry.
