2015 Copa América Group B
Group B of the 2015 Copa América was one of the three groups of competing nations in the 2015 Copa América. It consisted of Argentina, Uruguay (title holders), Paraguay, and guests Jamaica of CONCACAF. Group play began on 13 June 2015 and ended on 20 June 2015. Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay advanced to the quarter-finals. 2015 Copa América
The 2015 Copa América was the 44th edition of the Copa América, the main international football tournament for national teams in South America, and took place in Chile between 11 June and 4 July 2015. The competition was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body. Twelve teams competed: the ten members of CONMEBOL and two guests from CONCACAF – Mexico and Jamaica, the latter of which competed in the Copa América for the first time. Uruguay were the defending champions, but were eliminated by the host nation Chile in the quarter-finals. Chile won their first title, defeating Argentina in the final on penalties after a goalless draw. As winners, they qualified for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The 1959 South American Championship held in Ecuador was an extra South American Championship for the year. The tournament was contested between five teams; Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Peru did not participate, whilst Brazil attended with a team from Pernambuco. Uruguay won their 10th South American title. The seventeenth edition of the South American Championship was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 10 January to 7 February. For the first time seven teams took part of the event; the participating countries were Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. 1935 South American Championship
The 1935 South American Championship was the thirteenth edition of the football tournament, held from 6–27 January 1935 in Lima, Peru, used for Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay to qualify for the 1936 Summer Olympics. Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay withdrew from the tournament. There was some doubt the tournament would take place as during the 1930 FIFA World Cup, where Uruguay defeated Argentina, 4–2 in the final match, Argentina broke off football relations with their Uruguayan counterparts, claiming to have been heavily pressured, and that aggressions had been directed at them, before and during the tournament. The 1920 South American Championship of Nations was the fourth continental championship for nations in South America. It was held in Valparaíso, Chile from 11 to 26 September 1920. Overview The participating countries were the host Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil as the defending champion. Uruguay regained the title lost in the last edition, thus becoming champion for the third time in the first four editions of the tournament. Ángel Romano was the top goalscorer alongside teammate José Pérez, with three goals, repeating his feat of three years earlier. Brazil's 6–0 loss to Uruguay in this tournament would not be equaled until the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 94 years later, where they lost 7–1 against Germany. It was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 30 September to 14 October 1917. Hosts Uruguay retained the title after winning 1–0 over Argentina in the last match of the competition.
