2015 Argentina Floods
Several locations in the northern Buenos Aires Province suffered flash floods in August 2015, caused by a record rain. The Luján River, the Areco river and the Arrecifes River were the most affected. Three people died, and 11,000 had to evacuate their homes. The floods at the end of the Salado River neared 800,000 hectares. The legislature of the Buenos Aires province declared hydric emergency at 42 partidos: this allowed the use of $4,500 for public works, and tax exemptions at the affected partidos. The national minister of economy, Axel Kicillof, declared emergency at 64 partidos and granted credits to the farmers with flooded farming terrains in them. The floods took place during the political campaign for the 2015 presidential elections. Daniel Scioli
Daniel Osvaldo Scioli (, ; born 13 January 1957) is an Argentine politician, sportsman, and businessman. He was Vice President of Argentina from 2003 to 2007 and Governor of Buenos Aires Province from 2011 to 2015. From 2020 to 2022 he was Argentina's ambassador to Brazil. Since 2022, he has been the country's Minister of Production in the cabinet of Alberto Fernández. He has also served two tenures as president of the Justicialist Party. ( en, Together for Change) is a centre-right political coalition in Argentina. It was created in 2015 as Cambiemos ( en, Let's Change), and renamed in 2019. It is composed of Republican Proposal, Radical Civic Union, Civic Coalition ARI and United Republicans. These three parties respectively nominated Mauricio Macri, Ernesto Sanz, and Elisa Carrió as their representatives in the August 2015 primary elections, which were held to choose which candidate would run in the 2015 presidential election on 25 October. Mauricio Macri (; born 8 February 1959) is an Argentine businessman and politician who served as the President of Argentina from 2015 to 2019. He has been the leader of the Republican Proposal (PRO) party since its founding in 2005. The Front for Victory ( es, Frente para la Victoria, FPV) was a centre-left Peronist electoral alliance in Argentina, and is formally a faction of the Justicialist Party. Former presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner were elected as representatives of this party. General elections were held in Argentina on 25 October 2015 to elect the President and National Congress, and followed primary elections which were held on 9 August 2015. A second round of voting between the two leading candidates took place on 22 November, after surprisingly close results forced a runoff. On the first runoff voting ever held for an Argentine Presidential Election, Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri narrowly defeated Front for Victory candidate and Buenos Aires Province Governor Daniel Scioli with 51.34% of votes. Axel Kicillof (, born 25 September 1971) is an Argentine Peronist economist and politician who has been Governor of Buenos Aires since 2019. Kicillof completed an ideological turn, from teaching Marxist economics to the doctrine of Perón, joined the Justicialist Party and is already vice president of the party. The governor is seen as combining academic scholarship with overwhelming charisma. Kicillof also served as Argentina's Minister of Economy from 2013 to 2015 under the administration of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
