The 2014–15 in English football, 2014–15 season was the 93rd season of competitive association football and 78th season in the Football League played by York City F.C., York City Football Club, a professional football club based in York, North Yorkshire, England. Their seventh-place finish in 2013–14 York City F.C. season, 2013–14 and loss to Fleetwood Town F.C., Fleetwood Town in the 2014 Football League play-offs#League Two, play-offs meant it was their third successive season in EFL League Two, League Two. The season ran from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015. Nigel Worthington made eight signings in his second summer transfer window as List of York City F.C. managers, York manager. With the team only one place above the relegation zone by mid October 2014, Worthington resigned and was replaced by former Scunthorpe United F.C., Scunthorpe United manager Russ Wilcox. Nigel Worthington
Nigel Worthington (born 4 November 1961) is a Northern Irish former professional footballer who was most recently the manager of York City. He played a defender and a midfielder, playing his club football for Ballymena United, Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Stoke City and Blackpool. With Sheffield Wednesday he won the League Cup in 1991. As an international player, he was capped 66 times for Northern Ireland, and appeared for them at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. Worthington began his managerial career as player-manager of Blackpool in 1997 before he took over as manager of Norwich City in 2000. He guided Norwich into the Premier League in the 2003–04 season as First Division title winners. He left just over two years afterwards, having failed to keep them in the top-flight in 2005.
