Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. The 2013–14 Nashville Predators season was the club's 16th season in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Predators finished tenth in the Western Conference, failing to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second year in a row. Craig Smith (ice Hockey)
Craig Smith (born September 5, 1989) is an American ice hockey player, currently playing for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round, 98th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Smith played major junior hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Waterloo Black Hawks. He was named to the USHL First All-Star Team for the 2008–09 season. Smith participated at the 2011 IIHF World Championship as a member of the United States men's national ice hockey team. He then went on to play two years at the University of Wisconsin for the Badgers ice hockey team. Micheal Ferland (born April 20, 1992) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger who is currently under contract for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Anton Alexeyevich Volchenkov (russian: Анто́н Алексе́евич Волченко́в; born 25 February 1982) is a Russian professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. The 2014–15 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 89th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. The Blackhawks finished the season with a 48–28–6 record, finishing in third place in the Central Division. Nicholas Spaling (born September 19, 1988) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He last played with Genève-Servette HC of the National League (NL). Patric Gösta Hörnqvist (; born 1 January 1987) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player and alternate captain for the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League. He has also played for the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins. Kevin McCarthy (born July 14, 1957) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who spent 10 seasons in the National Hockey League between 1977 and 1987, serving as captain of the Vancouver Canucks from 1979 until 1982.
