2014–15 MHL Season
The 2014–15 Maritime Junior Hockey League season was the 48th season in league history. The season consisted of 48 games played by each MHL team. At the end of the regular season, the Dieppe Commandos, Woodstock Slammers, Miramichi Timberwolves, Campbellton Tigers, Pictou County Crushers, Truro Bearcats, Valley Wildcats and Yarmouth Mariners competed for the Kent Cup, the league's playoff championship trophy. The Kent Cup was won by the Dieppe Commandos. They beat the Truro Bearcats 4 games to 0 for their first championship in 20 Years. The Commandos met with the Longueuil Collège Français ( QJHL Champions), the Carleton Place Canadians ( CCHL Champions) and the Cornwall Colts (Host) in Cornwall, Ontario to determine the Eastern Canadian Fred Page Cup champion. The champion ended up being the Carleton Place Canadians as they defeated the Commandos 3-2 in the championship game to win their second straight title. Maritime Junior Hockey League
The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league under Hockey Canada, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. It consists of five teams from New Brunswick and one team from Prince Edward Island, which make up the EastLink North Division (formerly Roger Meek), and six teams from Nova Scotia which make up the Eastlink South Division. The winner of the MHL playoffs competes for the Fred Page Cup against the winners of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League and the Central Junior A Hockey League. The winner of the Fred Page Cup then moves on to compete for the Canadian National Junior A Championship, formerly known as the Royal Bank Cup. Memorial Civic Center
The Memorial Civic Center is a multi-sport recreation and conference facility in Campbellton, New Brunswick. The Memorial Civic Centre opened in downtown Campbellton on the bank of the Restigouche River in 1992. It was built to replace the Memorial Gardens which was destroyed by a fire in 1990. The Memorial Gardens was located on Arran St. The complex is equipped to accommodate sporting events, entertainment, commercial functions and trade shows on a local, regional, provincial or national basis. The Mariners Centre is a multi-purpose and double ice surface arena in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. It officially opened on November 28, 2001 and the building size is . Rath Eastlink Community Centre
The Rath Eastlink Community Centre is a multi purpose sporting facility located in Truro, Nova Scotia. The facility features an NHL sized arena, a competition-sized (25m) swimming pool, a water slide, a fitness centre and, a rock climbing wall. The facility opened on March 2, 2013. The opening day was set for fall 2012 but, was delayed due to a steel plant fire, and painting issues during construction of the arena. Inaugural game and hosting of the Fred Page Cup The first hockey game, which coincided with the opening of the RECC, was held March 2, 2013 between the visiting Metro Shipbuilders and the Truro Bearcats. Attendance topped 2,800 opening night and tickets to the game were provided free of charge by the Bearcats. Various charitable groups were able to collect donations during the evening. Pictou County Wellness Centre
The Pictou County Wellness Centre is a multi-purpose sporting facility located in Westville Road, Nova Scotia. The facility features 2 NHL sized hockey arenas, an olympic sized swimming pool, a fitness centre and, a gymnasium. The facility opened on December 6, 2012. The opening day featured a MHL game between the Pictou County Crushers and the Bridgewater Lumberjacks. There are two arenas in the Pictou County Wellness Centre, one being the main arena called the Sobeys Arena, and the other, an auxiliary arena named, the Bell Aliant arena. The Pictou County YMCA calls the Pictou County Wellness Centre home as they are the owners of the pool, gymnasium and, fitness centre. In May 2013 it was announced that the John Brother MacDonald Stadium would be coming to a close to help with the opening year deficit from the Wellness Centre of $445,500 and put the usage of the arenas from 42% to 74%. Summerside Western Capitals
The Summerside Western Capitals are a Junior "A" hockey team based out of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. They play out of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. The team currently plays their home games at the Consolidated Credit Union Place. Until 2007 the team played at the former Cahill Stadium. History The Hemphill Pontiac Western Capitals began in the Island Junior Hockey League. Amherst Ramblers
The Amherst Ramblers are a Junior A Hockey League team based in Amherst, Nova Scotia. The team is a member of the Maritime Hockey League and are in the EastLink South Division. All home games are played out of the 2,500 seat Amherst Stadium. The season usually runs from mid-September to mid March every year. History The Amherst Ramblers were founded in 1966 as the Berwick Shell Junior Bruins, and were founding members of the "Metro Valley Junior Hockey League". The league, then a junior B league, was eventually renamed the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. In 1967 the Bruins were relocated to Amherst and renamed the Amherst Ramblers. The South Shore Lumberjacks are a Junior A Ice Hockey team from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. They play their home games at the 1300 seat Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre. The team is a member of the Maritime Hockey League and plays in the Eastlink South Division. History The Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MHL) had its origin in the Metro Valley Junior Hockey League, founded in 1967 as a Junior "B" level hockey league consisting of six teams, all of them based in Nova Scotia. In 1977, the Metro Valley League acquired Junior "A" status and in 1983 expanded to New Brunswick with the addition of the Moncton Hawks. Berwick, Nova Scotia
Berwick is a Canadian town in Kings County, Nova Scotia. The town is located in the eastern part of the Annapolis Valley on the Cornwallis River. The town site stretches south from the river and Exit 15 of Highway 101 to Highway 1. Berwick occupies 6.80 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and has an elevation of 43 m (141 ft) above sea level. History As the headwaters of the Cornwallis River, Berwick was used by Nova Scotia's Mi'kmaq people and later Acadians as a crossing place between the Cornwallis and the Annapolis River which rises to the west.
