The 2014–15 Edmonton Oilers season was the 36th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, and 43rd season including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Oilers missed the playoffs for the 9th straight season Off-season On April 21, 2014, the Oilers announced that Bill Scott had accepted the position of assistant general manager, replacing Rick Olczyk. On June 10, 2014, the Oilers hired Craig Ramsay as an assistant coach, replacing Kelly Buchberger. Buchberger will move into a new role in player personnel. On June 23, 2014, the Oilers announced that Assistant Coach Steve Smith would leave the organization and he would end up being with the Carolina Hurricanes. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. The names of conferences and divisions were changed in 1993 to reflect their geographic locations. Laurent Brossoit
Laurent Brossoit (born March 23, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). Brossoit was selected by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round, 164th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and played for the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets prior to joining the Golden Knights. He was born in Port Alberni, British Columbia, but grew up in Cloverdale, British Columbia. Zack Kassian
Zack Adam Kassian (born January 24, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL). During his junior career, he won a Memorial Cup with the Windsor Spitfires in 2010. Selected 13th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, he began his career within the Buffalo Sabres organization before being traded to the Canucks in 2012. He played parts of four seasons with the Canucks before they traded him to the Montreal Canadiens in 2015. The Carolina Hurricanes (colloquially known as the Canes) are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kelly Buchberger
Kelly Michael Buchberger (born December 2, 1966) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He played for several National Hockey League teams from 1986 to 2004. As a coach, he has been an assistant for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL) and a head coach of the Tri City Americans of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Craig Ramsay
Craig Edward Ramsay (born March 17, 1951) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He played in the NHL from 1971 to 1985 for the Buffalo Sabres before beginning an NHL coaching career, serving as the final head coach of the Atlanta Thrashers. He is the head coach of the Slovakia men's national ice hockey team. Playing career Ramsay began his hockey career with the Peterborough Petes in 1968. Ramsay spent four seasons in Peterborough where he excelled at the game. Rick Olczyk (born March 10, 1970) is an American ice hockey executive and assistant general manager of the Seattle Kraken. Previously he was the assistant general manager for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL) for six seasons. He is the younger brother of U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Ed Olczyk. The World Hockey Association (french: Association mondiale de hockey) was a professional ice hockey major league that operated in North America from 1972 to 1979. It was the first major league to compete with the National Hockey League (NHL) since the collapse of the Western Hockey League in 1926. This list documents the records and playoff results of the Oilers' 49-year history in both the World Hockey Association (WHA) and later, the National Hockey League (NHL). The Edmonton Oilers began as a charter member of the World Hockey Association (WHA) in 1972, and were known as the ''Alberta Oilers'' for their first season after their Calgary counterparts were unable to play. The Oilers were a middle of the road team, failing to win a single playoff series until their seventh, and final, season in the WHA.
