This is a 2014 timeline of events in the Somali Civil War (2009–present). January January 1 * Hundreds of Ethiopian troops backed by armored vehicles and tanks enter Baidoa, the capital of Bay region, establishing new military bases in the city's main entrance and in a factory "to assist the Somali government to root out Al-Shabab in 2014 from the entire country", according to Bay's Deputy Governor Mr. Shine Moalim Nurow. An unknown number of Ethiopian troops were already in Somalia over the past three years. Burhakaba
Burhakaba ( so, Buurhakaba) is a town located in the Bay region in Somalia. The town takes its name from a big mountain in the city's center. Overview Burhakaba is the second largest town in the Bay region, with a reported population of 360,795. It is southwest of the capital Mogadishu and northeast from the regional center Baidoa. Burhakaba administrative district encompasses nearly 400 villages. The town is estimated to have been settled six centuries ago. Burhakaba is subdivided into several administrative villages: Waaberi, Wadajir and Hoolwadaag. Geography and demographics Burhakaba is situated at the coordinates of 2.7991° N, 44.0794° E with an elevation of 196 meters above sea level. Bakool
Bakool ( so, Bakool, Maay: ''Bokool'', ar, بكول) is a region ('' gobol'') in southwestern Somalia. Overview It is bordered by the Somali regions of Hiiraan, Bay and Gedo. Bakool, like Gedo and Bay, as well as most parts of the Jubbada Dhexe (Middle Juba) region, used to be a part of the old Upper Region, which was subdivided in the mid-1980s. It has its capital at Xuddur. In March 2014, Somali Armed Forces assisted by an Ethiopian battalion with AMISOM re-captured the Bakool province's capital Hudur from the Al-Shabaab militant group. The offensive was part of an intensified military operation by the allied forces to remove the insurgent group from the remaining areas in southern Somalia under its control. Lower Juba

Gedo
Gedo ( so, Gedo, Maay: ''Gethy'', ar, جيذو, it, Ghedo or ''Ghedu'') is an administrative region ('' gobol'') in Jubaland, southern Somalia. Its regional capital is Garbahaarreey. It was created in 1974 and is bordered by the Ogaden in Ethiopia, the North Eastern Province in Kenya, and the Somali regions of Bakool, Bay, Jubbada Dhexe (Middle Juba), and Jubbada Hoose (Lower Juba) further down east. The southern parts of Gedo, west of the Jubba River, used to be part of the old British Trans-Juba region during half of the seventy years of colonial era in Africa from 1890 to 1960.
