2014 World Lacrosse Championship
The 2014 World Lacrosse Championship was held July 10–19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park outside Denver, Colorado. 38 nations played 142 games in this international field lacrosse, men's lacrosse championship tournament organized by the Federation of International Lacrosse. Nine nations—Belgium, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Israel, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, and Uganda—all competed in the event for the first time. In the championship game on July 19, Canada men's national lacrosse team, Canada captured its third gold medal by upsetting the United States men's national lacrosse team, United States 8–5 in front of 11,861 fans. Canadian goalie Dillon Ward was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after he made 10 saves in the championship game, becoming the first goalie to ever receive the honor. Dick's Sporting Goods Park
Dick's Sporting Goods Park, also known as DSG Park, is a soccer-specific stadium located in Commerce City, Colorado that is home to the Colorado Rapids men's professional soccer team. The stadium seats up to 18,061 people for soccer matches, but can accommodate up to 19,734 for special soccer events and 27,000 for concerts. It became the third home venue for the Rapids upon its opening in 2007. Sitting at just over above sea level, the stadium has the highest elevation of any stadium regularly used by MLS teams. Lyle Thompson
Lyle Thompson (born September 9, 1992) is an Iroquois professional lacrosse player at the attack position for the Cannons Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League and the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League. He shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy with his brother Miles while winning it again in 2015 alone. He is the only player in history to win the award twice consecutively. Early life Lyle grew up in the Onondaga Nation, NY, one of the five children of Doloris and Jerome Thompson. Miles Thompson (born December 8, 1990) is an Iroquois professional lacrosse player who played for the University at Albany in NCAA Division I college lacrosse and plays for the Georgia Swarm in the National Lacrosse League and Chaos Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League. He shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy with his brother Lyle. Early life Miles grew up in the Onondaga Nation with parents Doloris and Jerome Thompson. Jeremy Thompson (born January 3, 1987 (age 36)) is an Iroquois professional lacrosse player for the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League, and the Atlas of Premier Lacrosse League. He was a two time Junior College Lacrosse National Champion and was 2nd team All-American at Syracuse University. Rob Pannell
Rob Pannell (born December 11, 1989) is an American professional lacrosse player who plays for Redwoods Lacrosse Club and formerly for Cornell University. He is the fourth leading scorer in men's Division I history, and holds the Cornell and Ivy League all-time scoring records. He was the Ivy League's first ever three-time Player of the Year award winner. He was voted the NCAA's Outstanding Player of the Year in Men's Lacrosse in both 2011 and 2013 when he was awarded the Lt. Raymond Enners Award by the USILA. Kevin Leveille (born August 18, 1981) is an American lacrosse player from Delmar, New York. As a child, Kevin played youth hockey for the TAYHA Chiefs before finding his true calling as a lacrosse prodigy. Eventually his skills landed him on the UMass Minutemen lacrosse team, and as a senior, he was named to the All-American Team. Professional career MLL He was a member of the Rochester Rattlers in Major League Lacrosse, playing the attack position. The Bermuda Lacrosse Association is a group based on the island of Bermuda with the goal of promoting the sport of lacrosse on the island territory. Scotland National Men's Lacrosse Team
The Scotland national men's lacrosse team is governed by Lacrosse Scotland and is coached by Matt Bagley. History Prior to the Lockerbie air disaster in December 1988, the men's game had not been represented in Scotland since the turn of the 20th century. The tragedy of Pan Am Flight 103 saw many Syracuse University students perish and on a memorial visit one year later the University's lacrosse team were surprised that there was no Scotland national men's team for them to compete against. The country was challenged to pull together an inaugural and bona fide team; this was achieved some eight months later and following the 1990 World Championships the men's team played their first representative match.
