2014 Welsh Open (snooker)
The 2014 BetVictor Welsh Open was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 19 February and 2 March 2014 at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales. It was the eighth ranking event of the 2013/2014 season, and the second time that BetVictor sponsored the event. Stephen Maguire was the defending champion, but he lost 3–4 against Joel Walker in the last 16. Ronnie O'Sullivan won his 26th ranking title by defeating Ding Junhui 9–3 in the final. This was O'Sullivan's third Welsh Open title after 2004 and 2005, to equal the record jointly held by John Higgins and Stephen Hendry. In the last frame of the final O'Sullivan made the 105th official maximum break. This was O'Sullivan's record 12th competitive maximum break. Sam Baird (born 17 June 1988) is an English former professional snooker player. He first entered the professional tour for the 2009–10 snooker season, 2009/10 season, by winning the EBSA Pro-Ticket Tour Play-offs. Robbie Williams (snooker Player)
Robbie Williams (born 28 December 1986) is an English professional snooker player. Williams turned professional in 2012 after qualifying in Event 3 of the Q School and gained a two-year tour card for the 2012/13 and 2013/14 snooker seasons. Amateur career He has represented England in a number of amateur competitions, including the World Under 21 Championships in India. Williams has won the Merseyside Open five times. Elliot Slessor (born 4 August 1994) is an English professional snooker player. In May 2013, Slessor qualified for the 2013–14 and 2014–15 professional Main Tour as one of four semi-finalists from the first Q School event. Career Slessor began playing snooker at the age of eight after his aunt bought him a table for Christmas. The ''Sporting Life'' was a British newspaper published from 1859 until 1998, best known for its coverage of horse racing and greyhound racing. Latterly it has continued as a multi-sports website. Maximum Break
A maximum break (also known as a maximum, a 147, or orally, a one-four-seven) is the highest possible in a single of snooker. A player compiles a maximum break by potting all 15 with 15 for 120 points, followed by all six for a further 27 points. Compiling a maximum break is regarded as a particularly significant achievement in the game of snooker, and may be compared to a nine-dart finish in darts or a 300 game in ten-pin bowling. The first officially recognised maximum break was made by Joe Davis in a 1955 exhibition match in London. At the Classic in January 1982, Steve Davis achieved the first recognised maximum in professional competition, which was also the first maximum to occur during a televised match.
