Bord na Móna (; English: "The Peat Board"), is a semi-state company in Ireland, created in 1946 by the Turf Development Act 1946. The company began developing the peatlands of Ireland with the aim to provide economic benefit for Irish Midland communities and achieve security of energy supply for the recently formed Irish Republic. The development of peatlands involved the mechanised harvesting of peat, which took place primarily in the Midlands of Ireland. Over the years, Bord na Móna has expanded and diversified its portfolio of businesses to include biomass procurement and supply, power generation (peat based and renewable), waste recovery, domestic fuel products and professional and consumer horticulture products. Lester Ryan (hurler Born 1988)
Lester Ryan (born 1 May 1988) is an Irish hurler who plays as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Clara, County Kilkenny, Ryan first arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team, before later joining the intermediate side. He joined the senior panel for the 2011 championship. Ryan has since become a regular member of the team and has won four All-Ireland medals, four Leinster medals and four National Hurling League medals. He captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 2014. He has also captained Kilkenny to Leinster (2014 and 2016) and National Hurling League (2014) successes. At club level Ryan is a two-time championship medallist at senior level with Clara. In addition to this he has also won All-Ireland, Leinster and championship medals in the intermediate grade. Brian Cody
Brian Cody (born 12 July 1954) is an Irish former hurling manager and player and retired schoolmaster. He managed the senior Kilkenny county team between 1998 and 2022, becoming the county's longest-serving manager and most successful in terms of major titles won. Cody is regarded as the greatest manager in the history of the game. Cody was appointed manager of the Kilkenny senior team on 16 November 1998 and led Kilkenny through a period of unprecedented provincial and national dominance, winning 43 major honours. These include eleven All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship titles, including a record-equalling four-in-a-row between 2006 and 2009, seventeen Leinster Senior Hurling Championship titles in twenty three seasons, ten National Hurling League titles (among which were five league-championship doubles) and seven Walsh Cups. John McCaffrey (hurler)
John McCaffrey (born 11 September 1987) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Lucan Sarsfields and has been a member of the Dublin senior inter-county team since 2006. Playing career Club McCaffrey plays his club hurling with the Lucan Sarsfield's club. He won a county minor championship title with the club in 2005. He also played when the club played their first ever Senior Hurling championship county final in 2013. Inter-county McCaffrey first lined out for the Dublin hurlers at minor level (as well as representing Dublin in minor football). He was captain of the team in 2005 as 'the Dubs' captured the Leinster title following a win over Wexford. Anthony Daly (hurler)
Anthony Daly (born 22 October 1969) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Clare senior hurling team. Born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Daly first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Flannan's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Clare minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1989–90 National League. Daly subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals and three Munster medals. He captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1995 and 1997. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Daly won two Railway Cup medals. At club level he is a one-time Munster medallist with Clarecastle. Walsh Cup (hurling)
The Walsh Cup ( ga, Corn Bhreatnach) is an annual hurling competition staged in Ireland by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) since 1954. Contested by the top county teams from the provinces of Leinster, Ulster and Connacht, the tournament consists of a round-robin group stage, followed by a knockout stage. Formerly ponsored by Bord na Móna, it was known as the "Bord na Móna Walsh Cup". Prior to 2018, third-level colleges also competed. The Walsh Cup is part of a series of GAA tournaments known as the Leinster GAA Series, along with the Kehoe Cup (second-tier hurling teams) and the O'Byrne Cup (Gaelic football). The money generated by these competitions helps address hardship suffered by players and ordinary members of the GAA in Leinster. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals.
