2014 Volta A Catalunya
The 2014 Volta a Catalunya was the 94th running of the Volta a Catalunya cycling stage race. It started on 24 March in Calella and ended on 30 March in Barcelona, and consisted of seven stages. It was the fifth race of the 2014 UCI World Tour season. The race was won for the second time by Spain's Joaquim Rodríguez of , who took the lead after winning the race's third stage, and maintained the overall lead of the race until the end in Barcelona, to take his first stage race victory in over two years. Rodríguez won the general classification by four seconds over runner-up and compatriot Alberto Contador (), while the 's Tejay van Garderen completed the podium, three seconds behind Contador, and seven down on Rodríguez; van Garderen was the winner of the race's queen stage to Vallter 2000- Setcases on the fourth day. 2014 UCI World Tour
The 2014 UCI World Tour was the sixth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The series started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 21 January, and concluded with the final stage of the Tour of Beijing on 14 October. After winning the 2008 UCI ProTour, Spain's Alejandro Valverde won his first World Tour individual points title, amassing 686 points over the course of the season. The rider finished 66 points clear of his closest rival and compatriot Alberto Contador of , while Australian rider Simon Gerrans was third for the team, but was over 200 points in arrears of Valverde. In the teams' rankings, finished top for the second year running, with a total of 1440 points. Second place went to the after taking overall victories in two of the season's last three races, while finished in third position. Cyclingnews.com is a website providing cycling news and race result owned by Future. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. In 1999 Sydney-based publishing company Knapp Communications purchased the website from Mitchell, and in July 2007 they sold it to British publisher Future plc for £2.2m. In July 2014 it was bought by Immediate Media Company, along with the print-only ''Procycling'' magazine. In February 2019, Immediate Media sold its cycling titles back to Future. La Molina (ski Resort)
La Molina is a ski resort in the Pyrenees mountains of northeastern Spain, in the municipality of Alp in the ''comarca'' of Cerdanya in Girona, Catalonia. Together with Masella, it forms the Alp 2500 resort. It is the site of the first ski lift in Spain, opened on 28 February 1943, and Spain's first ski school, which opened a year later. It is served by a RENFE / Rodalies train station. Sport and recreation The area hosted World Cup alpine races in December 2008 (women's technical events) and hosted the Snowboarding World Championships in January 2011. In 2013 the resort hosted the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships. New facilities such as a new track with a lift in the area of Pla d'Anyella have been built. Banyoles
Banyoles () is a city of 20,168 inhabitants (2021) located in the province of Girona in northeastern Catalonia, Spain. The town is the capital of the Catalan Comarques of Catalonia, ''comarca'' "Pla de l'Estany". Although an established industrial centre many of the inhabitants commute to the nearby city of Girona (12 km to the south). Banyoles was connected to Girona by the gauge Palamós–Girona–Banyoles railway, which reached it by 1928. Service on the line continued until 1956. Mataró () is the capital and largest town of the ''comarca'' of the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia Autonomous Community, Spain. Luka Mezgec (born 27 June 1988) is a Slovenian road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . After scoring numerous podium finishes in 2013, Mezgec finally tasted victory on the fifth stage of the Tour of Beijing. He was named in the start list for the 2015 Vuelta a España. Miguel Poblet
Miguel Poblet Orriols (18 March 1928 – 6 April 2013) was a Spanish professional cyclist, who had over 200 professional victories from 1944 to 1962. He was the first Spanish rider to wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, and in 1956 he became the first of only three riders to win stages in the three Grand Tours in the same year. (The other two are Pierino Baffi and Alessandro Petacchi.) He won the Milan–San Remo classic race on two occasions and took 26 stage wins in the three Grand Tours. His twenty-stage wins in the Giro d'Italia makes him the third most successful foreign rider in the "Giro" behind Eddy Merckx (25) and Roger De Vlaeminck (22). Poblet was of short stature who had great power, he was the first Spanish rider to be a specialist in one day races in an age when Spain only produced climbers. Setcases
Setcases (; literally meaning "Seven Houses", ''set'' "seven" and ''cases'' "houses") is a municipality and town in the Pyrenean ''comarca'' of Ripollès in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, near the French border. The Ter River is born in the mountains just above Setcases. The current mayor is Jaume Busquets i Bartolí. The name ''Setcases'' has been documented back to 965, from records of some donations made by Count Sunifred of Besalú, one of the Catalan counties, in the nearby monastery of Sant Pere de Camprodon. The church contains a Baroque altarpiece dedicated to Saint Michael, which is the only such example of one in all of the Camprodon Valley.
